  • As a grandson I could not have had a more loving or caring grandmother. Known by me as granmom. Granmom touched so many differant lives and had more friends then she ever could know. She was loved by so many. I can remember so many differant things about her. Like when you were talking about things in general you would suddenly find yourself speaking of GOD and all the wonderful things you could learn from HIM. She taught me so much like, never to judge others and eccept them for who they were.

Memories that will always be with me and that I will always charish are those when I was in her company and feeling completely safe. I remember one night I wanted to watch a scary movie called the BLOB on tv. After a time that seemed to me was forever she finally gave in. Aferwards I was so scared that IT was going to get me I ended up sneaking into her room and falling asleep in her bed for the next two weeks. I knew for sure that if IT came looking for me there she would send IT scurrying back to wherever IT came from.

Other times I remember are those days that I’d come home from school and hear that old upright piano sending its melody out for the whole neighborhood. The standup heaters I would curl up in front of in the winter. The davenports, an old comfy chair, the huge tree outside and the lylacs that you could smell throughout the house. Watching the Sci-fi movie of the day or Space 1999. Wrapped in a big red towel after a bath. Having after church lunch at Ida’s lunch counter. Sally-burgers and fries. Trips to the pick-a-pop and Safeway for our monthly rations. She always seemed to have just enough money left over so that Randy and I could have that five pound tub of ice cream to share. Chicken-pox and my first cold. Drawing while the grown-ups listened to some guy standing at the front of the room. At home league, whistling louder than song. Potlucks and good ol summer camp. All with granmom always near and me safer than anyone.

Granmom…..these and other memories will always remind me of the individuals you never knew and loved you. I LOVE YOU GRANMOM AND I LOOK FOREWARD TO SEEING YOU AGAIN.
