Miriam Helen McKeown

Miriam H. McKeown, 86, of Kennewick, passed away February 11, 2009 at Callaway Gardens in Kennewick. She was born July 18, 1922 in Mansfield, Ohio, where she was raised. Miriam graduated from Ohio University in 1944. It was at OU that Miriam met her husband, Bill. They were married in Joplin, Missouri on December 22, 1944. After Missouri, the McKeowns lived in California and Montana. In 1951 they moved to Idaho Falls, ID. Miriam taught from 1951-1967 in Idaho. In 1967 the family moved to Murraysville, PA. Miriam continued to teach 7th grade math in Jeannette, PA until the family moved in 1972 to Richland, WA. Miriam taught at Highlands Middle School in Kennewick until her retirement in 1989. After retiring, Miriam tutored at Christ the King School in Richland. Miriam enjoyed traveling, shopping, yard work and decorating her home. In 1998 Miriam moved into Columbia Edgewater in Richland. Since 2000 Miriam has made her home at Callaway Gardens in Kennewick. She was also a member of Christ the King Parish in Richland, Washington.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses: Charles Wm. McKeown of Pasco, WA, Sheryl Ann Ed Clements of Lakewood, CO, James Michael Erin McKeown of Edmonds, WA and Kenneth Patrick Julie McKeown of Pasco, WA; ten grandchildren and their spouses: Edward Charles Debbie Clements, Christopher Patrick Mia Clements, Kari Lee Kyler Hayles-Davenport, Michael Stephen Erin Clements, Matthew Robert Colleen Clements, Michelle Nichole Thomas Granbois, K.C. McKeown, Meghan Anne McKeown, Stephen Charles McKeown and Mark William McKeown; five great-grandchildren: Jonathan Caden and Dillon Charles Clements, Edward Paul and Kayleigh Jordann Clements, Brooklyn Descoteaux and brother Kenneth H. Garn of Sarasota, FL.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Kenneth M. Garn and Helen Sunkle Garn and husband William George McKeown.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 16, 2009 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Richland. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7:00 PM Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Einan's Funeral Home, Richland. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Sunday and continues until 8:00 PM after the rosary.
