Dolores Marie Tillson

Dolores Marie Huber Tillson

Dolores Marie Huber Tillson, 85, Kennewick, died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 7 of complications from cancer. She was born April 29, 1923 in Yankton, South Dakota, and grew up on her family's farm near Utica. With her husband Doug Tillson, she moved to Richland in 1948, and Kennewick in 1958. Dolores worked in accounting at General Electric and at Westinghouse Hanford.

Dolores was an active member of the Rambling Rovers, Tumbleweed Sam's RV club, and the Ladies of the Purple Sage Red Hat Society. She was an eager traveler, visiting England, the Mediterranean, the Danube River corridor, the Rhine River corridor, Australia, the South Seas, and, just last August, toured Italy.

She was a board member of the Hanford Retirees Association and a Volunteer In Columbia Park VIP. During the early years of the Water Follies Columbia Cup hydroplane races Dolores worked in the hydroplane pits during race week. For 50 years she was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Dolores gathered with her friends to create decorated art objects from real eggs. She and "the egg ladies" traveled often to regional shows and displayed their art at the Kennewick Library in 2005 and Pasco City Hall in 2007.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Marie Huber South Dakota, her sister Luella Schmidt California, her beloved husband, Doug Tillson, and her dear companion Chet Hutchinson. She is survived by her daughter Teresa Tillson Olympia and her dear companion Casey Kowrach. Dolores is also survived by numerous "chosen" grandchildren, her "chosen" sisters among the egg ladies, and more friends than we can count.

Funeral Services will 11 am Saturday, March 14, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Kennewick, with lunch to follow. Graveside service will be at 3 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Kennewick Ministry Fund or to the Tri City Chaplaincy Hospice. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, March 13 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kennewick.

  • While in AZ, I sadly read about Dolores’ death. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family. I have known Dolores for years, knew her in-laws very well. I am sorry – she was such a neat personality. I keep the family in my prayers.

  • Teresa–I am very sad about the passing of Aunt Dolores. I have so many regrets in not finding the time to get to know her more deeply. I have promised myself to not let that happen in getting to know you. I will definitely look you up on my next visit to Washington. If you happen to come south through Oregon, be sure to do the same. Hugs!

  • Teresa, I think we met just one time, but I want to convey my sympathy to you at this time. I first met your Mom when I came to work for GE in ’51; the good old days. A beautiful lady and kind friend. Later, on a trip thru Montana, my wife and I met your Dad & Mom in Missoula, quite by chance. And, still later on, we met many times square dancing with the Shufflers. Being on the Nominating Committee, it was my distinct honor to phone her, and seek her permission to be a candidate for the Board of Hanford Retirees Assn. That danged “ole” cancer is so evil; ;got my wife, too. Bob

  • Teresa-I am so sorry for your loss. It gives me great pleasure to say that I was a very lucky person in knowing your mom. She always had so many wonderful things to say about everything and looked on the brighter side of things. A very courageous woman and a very kind heart. Thank you for calling me up and giving me the honour of doing her hair on Monday. I was very blessed…Trigg.
