Anita Marie Smith Cummins
Anita was born on October 19, 1918 to Fred Smith and Mary Qualls Smith in Murphysboro, IL. She married Herbert M Cummins on February 25, 1939 which would turn out to be the birthday of her only granddaughter with whom she shared a very special bond. In 1947 Herb and Anita made their way to the Tri-Cities area where they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Anita was a member of the Retail Clerks Union and retired from Mayfair in 1981. Until Anita's passing on June 27, 2009, she LOVED to work crossword puzzles and spend time with her family especially her great grandkids. She will be deeply missed by her family.
Anita is survived by her husband of 70 years, Herb and their boxer Sheeba; sons, Ron, Gary Pat, and Dennis Coralie; grandchildren, Amy Richard Wilburn, Dusty Alisha, Nathan Kim, and Brian Nikki; great grandchildren, Richela and Amani Wilburn, Ava Cummins, Ethan Cummins, Brennan, Novelynn, Bailee, Noah and Brady Cummins; extended family Ann Larry Formo, Erik Formo, and Kaleb Formo and 2 sisters-in-law, Mary and Eunice whom reside in Illinois. She also leaves behind her very special friend Lynn from Texas whom she met in a chat room when she started using her computer at the age of 83!
Anita is preceded in death by her father, Fred Smith, mother, Mary Smith, sister June Wolfe, eldest grandchild Darren Cummins and her sister-in-law Carrie.
The family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Zanders, RN Chris, and the other staff in the ICU department at Kadlec.
Per Anita's request, there will only be a family service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Benton Franklin Humane Society
Gram, There are no words to describe the loss that I feel even though I know that you are smiling down on me safe in the hands of great grandpa, great grandma, Aunt June and Darren. I just wish we had one more minute.
Gonna miss you mom…………..
Happy Birthday Gramma!! I miss you!!
