Allan James Stump, age 85, went home to his heavenly father, Wednesday, August 26, 2009. Allan was born in Newport, Kentucky on July 23rd, 1924 to Andrew James Stump and Anna Charlotte Stump. The family moved to Denver, Colorado in1929. Allan graduated from Denver High School in 1942. In Denver, Allan attended the Aviation Institute and received his welding degree. Following graduation Allan joined the army serving overseas with the 130th Infantry in New Guinea and the Philippines during WWII through 1946.
Following his Military Service, Allan settled in the Tri-Cities working as a chemical operator for General Electric through its predecessors and lastly manager at Rockwell Hanford Operation retiring in 1987. The old bus ride days included playing cribbage or a good game of poker in the back rows. In the early days, Allan frequently visited a Dance Hall at Playland, located in Kennewick on Union Street in 1946. There his close friend, Bruzz O'Leary and he enjoyed socializing. In 1946, at Playland, Allan met Hazel Colleen Bell West. After a brief courtship they were married on November 2, 1946, at Central United Protestant. Allan and Hazel raised two beautiful daughters, Linda Kay Stump and Melitta Ann Stump. Allan enjoyed playing cards and fishing with his close friends from Hanford, especially Ralph Coffman. Allan was an excellent Steelhead, Bass and Salmon fisherman and was featured in the Tri-Cities Herald when he/Hazel caught a 40 lb Salmon on the Columbia River. Allan was a kind-hearted/sweet spirited man with a knack for telling stories of the early days.
