Nancy Jean Nelson

Nancy Jean Nelson Nancy passed away on August 3, 2009 at her home in Richland, WA. She was born July 9, 1941 in Glendale, California to Jean Flachsenhar and Earl Pedersen, both of whom have preceded her in death. Nancy moved to Richland in 1979 where she lived for the last thirty years. She is survived by her daughter Susan Collins, son-in-law John Collins, grandsons Nicholas and Samuel Collins, brothers Wayne and Robert Pedersen and their families.

A devout Christian, Nancy was an angel on earth. During her life she sacrificed her own pleasures to raise her daughter. She worked multiple jobs at times to provide a good safe home for the two of them. Nancy took great pride in her grandchildren and shared their accomplishments with her friends. She loved sharing Holiday meals with her family and playing board games during these good times.

She spent her retirement helping others and was a fixture at the Senior Citizen lunch at the Richland Community Center where she made many friends. It truly brought her great joy to be there with her friends where she could help to make their lives more comfortable. She will truly be missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her name to the American Heart Association, 140 S Arthur, Suite 610, Spokane, WA 99202. Or Online at: https://donate.americanheart.org/ecommerce/aha/aha index.jsp

Memorial Services will be held on August 12, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Einan's Funeral Home, Event Center, 915 By Pass Hwy, Richland, WA 99352-3600.

  • Yes, Nancy was a “table partner” at Comm.Center meals. And, in addition, since Jan.2009 had attended the free movies on Fri afternoons. I took my great=granddaughter Kenzie and she and Nancy became “fast friends”..while I was locking up the Gift shop, Kenzie preferred sitting next to Nancy another girl, I guessBut, little Kenzie 5 loved Nancy, and if we didn’t see her right off the bat, “where’s Nancy?”. Now, it’ll be a hard one to explain. Your Mother was a true pleasure to know. May God bless her soul. Bob

  • Nancy was the best neighbor one could have. She took me to Senior Citizens most days, went to grocery store every other week, helped in the house, etc. I will miss you Nancy and God will be looking out for you.

  • I met Nancy through my mom,Betty Gulley, who was her next door neighbor for over 15 years. Sadly, my mom had to move to Texas to live with my daughter and I because of illness and she missed Nancy terribly. When we went back last year to clean out her house, Nancy was there every day to take mom to the Sr. Center for lunch just like she used to when mom lived there! Mom and I were coming to Richland in just about 4 weeks and were looking forward to seeing Nancy. We are so saddened by her unexpected death and will miss her terribly.

  • Nancy was my favorite older cousin. She lived with her family in Missoula, MT where they managed the 93 Motel and Drive In. Nancy worked at the Drive In and always was happy to fix a “custom” burger for her relatives.

One of my favorite memories of her was how, on Saturday evenings, which was “Model Train Night” for her dad, brother Bob, uncle Bill, and often brother Wayne, she would make fudge. Everyone loved that fudge and I have a favorite photo of her as a teenager kneeling on a stool in front of the stove stirring it.

When I was a little girl Nancy was very kind to me and would play whatever I asked. I recently found an old cigar box on which I had written in pink fingernail polish, NJP and JLF. Don’t remember what would have been inside, but obviously Nancy and I shared something special.
