From Richland, WA, US | Born in Okanogan, Washington
Lloyd Winston McCulley
A quiet man went quietly Saturday Sept. 5th 2009. Our husband, father, and grandfather Lloyd Winston McCulley was born on October 2, 1932 in Okanogan, Washington to parents Fred and Fern. He was affectionately known to friends and family as Winn, or Red, or Mac. Dad graduated from Okanogan High School in 1950, where he lettered in football, basketball and tennis, and was active in thespians and chorus. The following two years were spent at Eastern State College where he was a member of the basketball team. Following his years at college he joined the army and was stationed at camp Hanford where he first met his wife to be, Boots, on a blind date. After a tour of duty in Korea, then Corporal McCulley returned to Richland where he and Boots were married by Father Schindler at Christ the King Catholic church on Feb 19th, 1955. In 1956, dad began a 31 year career with the Richland Fire Department rising in rank from fireman to Battalion chief. His first experience fire fighting was working for the US Forrest Service during college. Many family holiday gatherings were spent at the fire house creating lifetime bonds. Supporting a wife and six kids in the late 1960s, Dad learned a second trade and started his own carpet installing business. Most days he arrived home from the fire house, ate breakfast, changed clothes, and rushed out the door for another day of carpets. He never complained. In his retired years he was active in the Knights of Columbus and was an Extra Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Dad's favorite hobbies were golf with the Gangsome at West and woodworking in his basement shop fabricating chairs, intricate scaled cars, toys and toy chests for his grand kids. Dad was a faithful husband, a wonderful father grandfather and great grandfather. His infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew him, and warmly welcomed at the gates of heaven.
Lloyd Winston was preceded in death by his father and mother Fred and Fern McCulley. He is survived by Boots his wife and partner of 54 years, older brother Roy, and younger brothers Dale and Fred, children Winston Annette, Sherry Shulkin Rick, Cara Kelly Pat, Gary Celeste, Lance Kim, and Anne Chapman Vince, Grandchildren Heather, Jared, Ashley, Michael, Kevin, Zachary, Kyndell, Paige, Alex and Karsen, and great grandchildren Preston and Kalani.
Visitation will take place from a 5:00pm-8:00pm on Friday, September 11, 2009 with the vigil at 7:00pm, at Einan's Funeral Home, 915 By-Pass Highway in Richland, WA. A funeral mass will be held at 12:30pm, Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Parish of the Holy Spirit, 7409 West Clearwater in Kennewick, WA. The family would like to invite to a luncheon immediately following the service at the church. The graveside service will follow to Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland at 3:45pm.
Boots, Winston, Sherri, Cara, Gary, Lance, and Anne,
My thoughts are with you at this time of loss. There are certain people and families that have a lasting effect on your lives and the McCulleys fulfill that role in my life. Win was a great man. Through his and Boots’ guidance and example they raised a precious family.Stay close and remember all the joy that he brought to your lives. And believe in your heart that you all brought that same joy to him.
I love you all,
Mike Davis
Boots & Family,
Sorry to read of Red’s passing. I remember Red & Boots being fellow square dancers with my parents Bob & Aleene Bush. I also remember Red’s smiling face, laughter and personable disposition when we worked together on emergency calls. Red was with the Richland Fire Dept. and I was with the Richland Police Dept. Those were good times! Red will be missed! Again, my condolences!!
To the McCulley Family:
I’m sorry to hear of Lloyd’s passing.
We go back a lot of years, watching the kids grow up and play sports.
Ron
Must have been a world class man because his son Gary is a world class person.

I will forever cherish the time when we lived next door to you and Lloyd. The house-warming brownies, the chats over the fence, all the great memories. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you.
dear winston
i am saddened to read about the passing of your father. my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May you get strength from the Holy Spirit. God Bless you.
Mac was the best neighbor you could ask for, period. We will cherish the 16 years we got to live next door to him and Boots. Our kids knew they could always count on them for almost anything including school fundraisers. It was like having a 3rd Grandpa for them.

Dear Winston & Family –
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Having lost my Dad last year, I understand the pain for losing a dear loved one. I hope you find comfort in knowing that so many thoughts and prayers go out to you.

To Cara and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember your dad as a very kind and considerate man. May your faith, family and friends comfort you at this time. You are in my prayers.
Hands down one of the greatest people I have ever met in my life. In the 18 years of my life that I have had the privilege to share with my grandpa I have never heard him utter anything bad about anyone or anything. I hope to be half the man my grandfather was. He did everything in his power the raise a fantastic family and was the best grandfather anyone could ask for. I love you grandpa and I cant wait to see your smiling face again.
I always remember Mr.McCulley with a smile on his face. He was a loving Dad to my dear friend Cara. My sympathy goes out to the family as they struggle with the loss of such a special man.
Dear Boots and family-we were saddened and, yes, shocked to learn of Win’s death. He was the kind of person we thought would live forever-easy going, slender, full of fun. We enjoyed dancing with the 2 of you for many years. You are in our thoughts as we go on a short vacation over the time of his service.
