Micheal Vern Oliver

Micheal V. Oliver

Micheal V. Oliver was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on April 25th, 1948 to Patrick and Nelda Oliver. He grew up in Pasco, Washington and lived in the Tri Cities area for 55 years. He graduated from Pasco High School in 1966. He was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam. He was severely injured on Mother's Day 1969 at LZ Center. Micheal spent a year in the hospital recovering from his injuries and was honorably discharged in 1970. He was awarded 3 Purple Hearts for his service. Micheal married Marianne Anarde on July 12th, 1986. Micheal and Marianne remained devoted to each other for the next 23 years and raised their family in Richland. Micheal worked as a Mental Health Counselor for Lourdes Counseling Center from 1985 until 1997 when declining health forced him into a most unwelcome retirement. Beside his family, helping children in need was his true calling. He had a gift of being able to reach children and understand them. They trusted him implicitly. He taught many young counselors over the years not only how to work with children, but that in caring for them, they were touching their souls. For 12 years, Micheal battled a chronic terminal illness resulting from his military service. He underwent several unsuccessful rounds of chemotherapy treatments. All the while he maintained great dignity and a sense of humor. He imparted these things to his children along with a strong sense of family. On September 18th, Micheal passed quietly and peacefully into the night at home with Marianne by his side. He passed, as he had lived his life, with quiet dignity. Micheal is survived by his wife Marianne, and children; Whitney Tonn Derek, Meaghan, Jennie, Drew and Zachary Oliver, grandchildren; Dylan, Taylor and Jacob Tonn, Blue Steele, brother James Susan Oliver, niece Emily Bentti, mother Nelda, siblings; Patricia Humpla, Kelly Hoover, and Tim Oliver, as well as, four loving dogs who were his faithful companions. Micheal, we will carry you with us in our hearts and souls until we are together again. Donations may be made in Micheal's name to the National Military Family Association.

  • Micheal always seemed to keep his ability to laugh at a good joke no matter what. He was kind, understanding, and never met a strange. He could talk to anyone about any subject. He set an example for others by always doing the right thing. He loved Marianne and their family. He will be remembered.

  • Mike was a wonderfully caring role model and teacher. I will always remember our talks on working with children and relating to different types of people. It was a huge loss when he had to leave. He was a calm, quiet leader who will be and is greatly missed.

  • Although I never had the opportunity to meet Micheal, I could always tell he was a wonderful man by the way Marianne and others spoke of him. And besides, any man who loved his dogs as much as he did, has to have a heart of gold, :. My heart breaks for you and your family. I wish you fond memories of him through these very difficult times.

  • Sandy and I were deeply saddened to hear of Mikes death. He meant so much to both of us and we each have many fond memories of working with him at Carondelet. In fact,we always smiled whenever we thought or spoke of him throughout the years. He was so inciteful, positive and calm, always willing to encourage and mentor both us and the patients. Marianne, we’re thinking of you and the kids. Wish we were closer.
