Ronald Verne Dirkes
Ronald V. Dirkes passed away September 9, 2009 in Richland, Washington. Ronald was born January 2, 1931 to Jacob and Mabel Dirkes in Great Falls, Montana. He was raised in Fairfield, MT, graduating in 1949 from Fairfield High where he met his wife Bonnie. Ronald and Bonnie spent their careers between Great Falls and Spokane, Washington, where Ronald retired from GMAC after 31 years of dedicated service. Following a brief stint in Mesa, Arizona, Ronald and Bonnie settled in Richland in 2005.
An excellent athlete throughout high school, Ronald loved the outdoors. Many a day was spent hunting the fields and mountains of Montana and Washington and wading crystal clear rivers and streams, flyrod in hand, in pursuit of various small and big game and the elusive rainbow trout. It wasn't all about getting the game – a day afield followed by stories told amongst family and friends around the campfire was the ultimate reward. In the mountains or at Cannon Beach – who can resist another S'more??
Ronald was a very kind, giving, helpful and compassionate man. He was the first to offer a helpful hand to get the job done. He was dedicated to those around him, unwavering in his support, and a constant companion to his loving wife of 59 years – an inspiration to all who knew him.
Ronald was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mabel and Jacob Dirkes; mother- and father-in-law, Ella and Cal Leach; and brother, Jim Dirkes. In addition to his wife Bonnie, Ronald is survived by his daughter Karen Barry Harmitz, Scottsdale, Arizona; Janet Jon Buerstatte, Eugene, Oregon; son Roger Patti Dirkes, Richland; grandchildren Aubrey and Chloe Buerstatte, Adam and Emily Dirkes and Amy Parks.
In light of Ronald's passion for the outdoors, we suggest memorial contributions to Trout Unlimited or the nature or wildlife organization of your choice.
A memorial service will be held at Einan's Funeral Home, Richland, Washington on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM, with viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, also at Einan's.
I’m very sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. I was Bonnie’s physical therapist and through the 4 months that I worked with Bonnie, I was able to see the love and dedication that Ron had for her. His love and commitment was never-ending. Ron put Bonnie before himself each and every time I was present. I knew, without a doubt, that when I left, he would continue all that we worked on during that session and more. It was such a pleasure to have Ron present for each and every treatment. I know he will be missed dearly, but I’m thankful to have known him.
Sincerely,
Wende
