Dora Evelyn Brown slipped away from us peacefully November 4, 2009, at Richland Gardens in Richland. She was born May 15, 1919 to parents Charles and Edna McInturff in Marion, Illinois. She met the love of her life, Carl Thomas Brown and married August 30, 1938.

She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and a very proud grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother and was the world's best mother-in-law.

She liked to camp, go fishing and just be with her family.

She loved to laugh and have her family around her. In family gatherings, she was the center of attention. Everyone who came in contact with her loved her immediately. She was just a warm, loving person with a lot of love to give. Her family was her life. • Like my sister Marsha, I have many fond memories of “Dory”. Dory & Carl lived on the opposite side of my Granparents, George & Gladys Hammackin an “A” house on McPherson. Whenever I’d visit my Grandparents, I would see Dory too. I also fondly remember our camping trips with Dory and Carl, up to Sawmill Flats. Dory was a wonderful, warm, bright, cheerful woman. I am honored to have known this special Lady.

  • When I think of grandma Brown I think of her as your all American old fashioned grandma. She loved her family with all her heart and took care of each of us to her highest capability all year long, year after year. That is what she truly enjoyed doing. She may not be with us anymore but I believe that she is hand in hand with the love of her life taking care of him again because that’s what she enjoys doing and that gives me comfort and peace. I love you and will miss you grandma, Shannon xoxo

  • My parents, Dick & Betty Polk, lived next door to Carl & Dory in their “A” house when I was born. My grandparents, George & Gladys Hammack, lived on the back side of the house. Somehow, the Hammack/Polk/Brown families just seemed to meld together as one big family. Years later, a friend and I rented from Carl & Dory, the same house I was born in. There’s never been a time in my life that I did not know Carl & Dory and all the girls. I have fond remembrances of camping trips, family reunions, cookouts and just socializing with the Browns. Dory was one of the sweetest women I ever knew. She had a delightful laugh and you heard it often — a trait all her girls inherited. She seemed to find joy in so many things and was such a treat to be around. The last few years have been hard for Dory. May she now rest in peace with Carl and enjoy eternity with the love of her life.
