Bruce Wallace Young
Bruce Wallace Young May 30th, 1951 – December 31st, 2009
Bruce Wallace Young was born to Deryl and DeEsta Young on May 30th, 1951, in Brigham City, Utah. On December 31st 2009, he passed peacefully in his home when he went to be with his son Nicholas and our Heavenly Father.
Bruce was raised in Perry, Utah and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Montana-Wyoming Mission. He eventually landed in the Tri-Cities area where he made his home for the last 28 years. His passions were his family, his "speed buggy," his horses, and all of his treasures. He will fondly be remembered as "Santa" bringing Christmas joy to many children and adults.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Sandy Young, his four daughters Brenda Sean, Michelle, Wendy Jay, Brooke, daughter-in-law Kirsten, Mother DeEsta, Brothers Phil and Boyd, Sisters Teresa and Roseann and his eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Nicholas Young and father Deryl Ross.
Bruce was the most kind, devoted, selfless individual anyone could ever run across. His crooked smile, jokes and endless stories allowed him to make friends everywhere he went. He was always the first person to lend a helping hand to those in need. It has been said many of times that "Bruce was the neighborhood." He has touched many lives and will be missed dearly by all who knew him; each and everyone one of us knowing that we are better people because he was a part of our lives. Heaven has our angel now.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at the LDS Jadwin Building, 1321 Jadwin Ave. in Richland, on January 7th, 2010, at 11:00 am. A burial service will immediately follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 915 Bypass Hwy in Richland.
Bruce seemed like a very caring person with a difficult job at animal control. I spoke to him several times when I had to bring in stray feral sick cats. He had a very good heart!
I didn’t get to see Bruce very often. I remember him at Nick’s funeral service. I went to shake his hand and instead he gave me a big hug to comfort me instead of me comforting him. He abviously cared about others feelings before his own. I will always remember his sense of humor and am saddened by his passing. I know he must have been a good person because of the son he raised. I’m sorry for the loss to the rest of his family

Dear Michelle and Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your father. While I only met him on the one occasion over Thanksgiving, he was incredibly hospitable and kind. One could clearly see that Bruce was a happy and highly successful individual because he was surrounded by the love of his family.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family during this time of loss.

I was truly saddened to read about Bruce in the paper this morning. He and I joined Sunrise Rotary at the same time and shared many Friday breakfasts together. Although it’s been a few years since I have seen Bruce or have been in Rotary, I appreciate having known him. Peace be with you and your family.
Sandy and the girls – My heart aches for you. I loved Bruce and always looked forward to our visits. He could cheer anyone up with his kind, cheerful spirit. When my son needed help he truly put things in perspective when he said how much he missed his son and that he would do anything to be able to help him. What a reunion with grandfather, father and son. I know how much you all will miss him. Our family hopes we can help in just a small way. We are thinking of you and will see you shortly. We love you all.
I met Bruce while registering my pit bulls for their CGC at animal control a few years ago. He was always so kind to me and never gave me the “look” when I came in with my pits. Bruce was so nice and had a gentle spirit. My pitbull, Bruce, loved going up to Bruce and playing with him after his CGC test was over. I so enjoyed being treated like a regular dog owner and not a steorotypical “pitbull” owner. Thank you for sharing your love of animals with the Tri-Cities.
Sandy and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. May the strength of your family and faith bring you comfort at this most difficult time

I just want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.
Bruce, I have great memories of you as a child. I am so sorry for your family because I know they will miss you. May God be with them and may they know you are happy and with Nicolas, your Dad, Grandma and Grandpa Getz and many others. It won’t be long and we’ll all be together again. Love, your cousin, Pam
Sandy and the girls, Sorry to hear about your lose. I met Bruce when I was an Animal Control officer, he always had a joke for me when I would bring the animals to your place for shelter. I learned quite alot from him and I was able to teach him a few things. I will miss him.
As Kirsten’s sister I saw first hand how Bruce was such an involved and loving father and grandfather. I fondly remember Bruce becoming “Santa” at Christmas for all the kids in the family. I will always treasure the good memories I have of Bruce.
I worked for Bruce at Tri-City Animal COntrol from 2004-2005. He was a great boss and a wonderful man – I will be forever thankful for the time I got to spend with him and my prayers and thoughts are with his family.

My dad and Bruce started working together at Hanford many years ago and became friends. When Bruce went out to work at Animal Control my family went over and walked the dogs, and visited with him almost every weekend until he left. Bruce was always one of my favorite people and I am very sorry to hear about his passing. He always made fun of me and made me feel like a part of his family. I wish his family the best in life.
