Jeanette Scott

Jeanette Isabelle "Issy" Scott died December 14, 2009, at the Avalon Rehabilitation Center in Pasco. She was 89.

Issy was born January 29, 1920, in the mining town of Querida, Colorado to Henry and Jeanette Gilleece. Issy and her brother, Jim, contracted typhoid as little children. The doctor recommended the children move to a lower elevation, so they lived with their paternal grandmother in Kansas for a while. When they returned to Colorado, they lived with their maternal grandmother, aunt and cousin, Helen Mary. Eventually, Issy and Jim lived again with their mother and their stepfather, Joe Painter, and half-siblings, Joe and Margaret Painter.

Issy and Helen Mary graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. Issy taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She later attended secretarial school in Topeka Kansas. After World War II, Issy moved to Richland to work for General Electric Company. Issy met the love of her life, Fred V. Scott, while dancing at the VFW in Pasco. They married and raised four children.

Issy was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest was eight. She was a member of the Homemakers Club; Cub Scout den mother; and an active member of the Riverview United Methodist Church. When her kids began entering their teens, Issy went back to work as a secretary for Baker & Giles, an accounting firm at which Issy's sister-in-law, Anna Marie Scott, was a CPA. When Anna Marie began her own business, Issy continued to work with her.

Camping was a big part of family life, and the family spent many summers in the Methow Valley. In her spare time, Issy loved knitting and crocheting. Later in life, she became a fan of golf on TV. She volunteered at Lady of Lourdes. She and Fred traveled to Hawaii and traveled around the West and Mid-west in their RV.

Issy is survived by her sons Rick Lori Scott of Pasco, Adrian Santos Scott of Pasco, Robin Carol Scott of Pasco, and daughter Guyanna Young Scott of Woodinville, WA, and 12 grand children and 12 great-grandchildren. Issy was predeceased by husband Fred V. Scott, brother Jim Gilleece, sister Margaret Skala, brother Joe Painter, sister-in-law Anna Marie Scott, and Gus the Goose.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 30, at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverview United Methodist Church in Pasco.

  • As kind of person as I remember growing up. A mother to our whole neighborhood. Many of us are better people for having known Issy and the Scott family. Peace.
