Richard Elda Weaver, born July 25, 1925 in Centralia, Oklahoma to Catherine and Ray Weaver. Richard died, December 27, 2009 at the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick.
Richard was in the Pacific in World War II and was also stationed in Pelelui, Leyte, Luzon, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. In 1948 he married Betty R. and they settled in Richland where they raised nine children. Sandra of Yakima, WA, Charlotte of Atlanta, CA, Bruce of Spokane, WA, Ken of Yakima, WA , Paul of Yakima, WA, Sam of Yakima, Lou of Alaska and Dave of New Mexico.
While raising their children, they bought Hager's Drive-In, in Pasco, WA. The family had also resided in Cowiche where they had small farm. Dick was a master of the Cowiche Grange. Later the marriage dissolved.
Richard was a long standing member of the VFW Erickson Post and the Richland Moose Lodge, holding offices in both organizations.
In 1990 Richard married JoAnn Ellis Scott. He became a stepfather to Joseph Templeton of Olympia, WA, George Templeton of West Richland, WA, Tom Scott of West Richland, WA and Sherry Scott of West Richland, WA. He is also survived by his brother Robert C. Weaver.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Bill; and his sister, Catherine; grandson Devin and granddaughter Cami.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 3:00pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland, WA.
I was moved to read of Mr. Weaver’s passing. He was a very fine man with a wonderful family.
