Dorothy Lucille Gilmour
Dorothy L. Gilmour October 22, 1912 – January 10, 2010
Dorothy was born to Joseph and Mary Flynn in Red Lodge, Montana, where she formed many wonderful childhood memories with her sister Lorraine and her brother Jerry.
In her late teens the family moved to Scranton, PA, where she met her future husband George Gilmour. George and Dorothy were married August 11, 1932. After a few years they relocated to Spokane, WA, and eventually to Richland, where they raised their five children; sons, Ray and Jerry; daughter, Barbara; and sons, Ron and Gary. Dorothy had many tales to tell of her many years on the Hanford Project after her children began school.
She is survived by her sister, Lorraine of Scranton, PA; her sons; Jerry, Ron Margaret, and Gary Dona, all of Richland; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a dear and caring friend, Eva Oswalt.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, George; brother, Jerry; son Ray and daughter Barbara.
She passed away Sunday morning of natural causes at Life Care Center of Kennewick. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the highly capable and caring personnel at Life Care for the gentle care and love shown on a daily basis during the past couple of years.
To all of you who were close to her: "Yoooo – Hooo!"
There will be a brief memorial service in the mausoleum at the South end of Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 1:00pm.
Back in the early 70’s, I delivered bags of mail from the Federal Building to 100N for Dorothy and her crew to sort and deliver.
She was always chipper, smiling, and fun to talk with. She had wonderful stories and told them very well.
I will always have a special place in my heart for Dorothy. I am very happy that she had a long and loving life. May God bless her family.
