Margaret ‘Peggy’ Francis Adams

Peggy was born July 29, 1923 to Wallace and Sarah Laffoon in Excelsior Springs, Missouri and passed away at the age of 86 on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 in Everett Washington.

She moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma when she was quite young and spent her days with her sister and two brothers fishing, swimming and running the riverbank looking for snakes.

After living in various places along the west coast, Peggy and her family settled in Richland in 1970. She was other an avid china painter, winning many awards and teaching techniques to others. Her hobbies included quilting, cooking and gardening. Her grandkids claim she could "whip up a pair of shorts" with lightening speed if one of them needed a pair to play in the sprinklers and they often were surprised with the various ingredients in her "icebox soup".

Peggy worked part time for many years in the canteen at the Federal Building in Richland where she often persuaded customers to buy her hand-painted china pieces or her latest craft project when they really only came in to buy a candy bar.

Peggy's greatest joy was her grandchildren. She loved having them over to spend the night and would often gather up supplies for them to build forts, then make them pancakes or biscuits and gravy for breakfast. She always had room at her table for whoever stopped by and she was always generous in letting people stay at her house and treated them just like they were her own grandchildren.

Peggy is survived by her children Judy Jerry Collins, Whigham, Georgia, Elvis Kennedy, Mission Viejo, California, Lucinda Rick Richardson, Sherman Oaks, Califorina, Cris Harkness, Snohomish Washington, Grayden Lisa Adams, and Guiniviere Daniel Burnley of Richland Washington, her sister Mary Bill Clemons, brother Bill Laffoon of Ponca City Oklahoma. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mark, Tamra, Toni, Heather, Brandon, Brian, Blair, Carin, Christopher, Amanda, Jared, Shauna, Elissa, Emma and Erin, 12 great grand children, 2 great-great grandchildren and her beloved cats Muffin and Lucy.

She is preceded in death by her husband Irving Wayne Adams, her parents Wallace and Sarah Laffoon, her brother Virgil Laffoon, her sons Lewis Kennedy and Michael Kennedy and her grandson Elvis Kennedy Jr..

A graveside service will be held today, Friday, April 16, 2010 at 10:00am at Sunset Memorial Gardens, in Richland. There will be visitation prior to the graveside, starting at 8:00am at Einan's Funeral Home.

  • Peggy was my mothers best friend in her later years. I’m deeply sorry to hear of her passing. Both Peggy and Flo were great comrades in painting on china. I know that my mom and her will be in good company with God doing his work. I visited with Peggy after my mom’s passing and from her conversations, she was especially proud of her grandchildren. Many prayers at this time.
