Amy Vern Cummings

Amy Vern Pierce Cummings, 88, went to her new home in Heaven on May 25, 2010 with her family nearby. Amy was born in Junction City, Kansas, being welcomed by five sisters and two brothers.

The Pierce family moved to Yakima WA, when the nearby river changed its course and flooded their farm. Amy was in high school at the time and finished her high school in the Yakima area. She put her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior while attending a local church. This change in her life gave her a keen desire to study the Bible and prepare for Christian service at Multnomah Bible College in Portland, Oregon. There she met her future husband, Norman Cummings. Together Norm and Amy pastored two churches in Arizona and California and then joined a newly formed missionary organization, OC International, serving in their headquarters for 30 years.

Amy is fondly remembered by her husband Norman, her son Douglas of Los Angeles, her daughter Catherine of Richland, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Amy is survived by her husband, Norman, son Douglas Joanne in Santa Monica, CA, daughter Catherine Russ Jones in Richland, WA, three grandchildren Christopher Kara Jones, Amy Ryan Hicks and Bryan Kristen Jones. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Sierra and Jayce Jones, Reed and Eliot Jones and Benjamin Hicks.

Amy was an active member of West Side Church in Richland and will be honored at a memorial service at 615 Wright, Richland on Monday, May 31 at 11 am.

  • It is an honor to make a comment in your guestbook, Norm. My wife and I wish to express our sincere sympathy to you and your family. Neither of us have much of an idea of what you are going through, right now. Especially after I think you said 63 years of being together. The Lord brought these verses to my mind from the Bible in John 14 – “Let not you heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me Jesus the Son; In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” What a glorious promise! Amy is well taken care of and is already in our loving Father’s arms. Our continued prayers are with you, Norm, & family. We are sure that our Lord is saying “Well done, good and faithful servants – Amy & Norm.”
