Peter Joseph Todish

Peter Joseph Todish, 74, of Richland, WA. passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.

Pete was born in Nahma, MI., on May 6, 1936 to Jacob and Lilly Todish, the fifth of 10 children. The family moved to Burns, Oregon in 1953 where Pete completed high school, graduating in 1956. Pete's love for sports had him lettering in basketball, baseball, football and track. In later years he played Triple "0" baseball with the Knights of Columbus and much to our surprise he took up the game of golf.

Pete joined the Army and after serving on the East coast he was transferred to Camp Hanford in 1957. He met and married his true love, Wilma Feuerborn in 1958. Pete joined the Hanford Fire Department in 1960. In the early seventies Pete returned to school earning a Fire Science degree from CBC. Pete's career as a firefighter with Hanford eventually lead him to become Chief Steward for the firefighters and President of the Hanford Atomic Metal Trades Union. During this time he became a successful fund-raiser for United Way of Benton-Franklin Counties. His slogan was" DON'T GIVE UNTIL IT HURTS…..GIVE UNTIL IT FEELS GOOD".

Well known for his antics and quick wit, Pete brought adventure and spontaneous laughter. His one-liners and songs unforgettable, he rarely passed up an audience. He lived life boldly, deeply committed to his family and friends, and leaving the indelible gift of his love. Facing his last days with strength and courage, his sole purpose was to remind us of his love. Pete will be truly missed and fondly remembered by many.

His son, Duane Todish, preceded him in death.

Pete is survived by his wife, Wilma, and grandson Peter Todish; his son Tony Erika Todish, daughters DeniseVince Barbour and Colleen Lance Anderson; grandchildren Erica DanJohnson, Mark Todish, Anthony Tappin, Tyler Todish, Carly Anderson, Blake Anderson and great-granddaughter Rihanna Johnson; his brother Jerry Todish, sisters Judy Petrgallo and Linda Weems.

The Rosary will be at Einan's Funeral Home on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 6:00pm. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 1:00pm at Christ the King Catholic Church in Richland, with a burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Pete can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation JDRF.

  • Dear Wilma, Special thoughts for you and Pete.

Pete was one of those rare individuals whose personality remained consistent with everyone throughout his life–witty, funny, caring, genuine, and loving. He could be confident and insecure at the same time but always with good humor.

We went to school together at Burns and were friends and teammates. Pete was a great competitor whose good humor inspired his fellow teammates to perform at a higher level.

Pete helped to light up all of our lives.

    Love to you Wilma.

  • Pete was a good friend and co-worker at the Hanford Fire Dept. We shared many good times at the Officer’s expense. He always could make us laugh. He was always loyal to his Detroit Tigers/Lions and fellow union members. He will be missed by all who knew him. Go Tigers/Lions.

  • I remember Pete from when we worked together at Wascher’s Service Oil Company in the 1970’s. He was a genuinely, funny, caring man. He could make all of us laugh with his sense of humor, jokes, songs and limericks. He truly adored his wife and kids working two jobs to help out. Just a truly great guy. My deepest sympathy at his passing.

  • To Wilma, Denise, Tony, Colleen and their families:

What can I say about Pete?

He was the best neighbor ever.

He made me laugh everytime I was around him.

He was one of a kind.

I’ll miss him in my heart forever.

My best memory of Pete is the time he and Dad took me up to Pullman to start my junior year – let’s just say that there were complications that led to the both of them being in the doghouse for a while. I loved that trip and will never forget it.

    Rest in Peace Pete.

    With love,

  • As a neighbor Pete was always the life of any gathering. Always giving each of us a bad time, but accepting of the kidding going back his way. He was a good neighbor and loved kids. I will miss Pete and my thoughts and prayers go out to Wilma and family.

  • Wilma and Family,

As you know we all have memories of Pete that come to mind in an instant and some that take a bit of… hey! do you remember the time Pete did this or Pete said that and in our reminiscing the fond memories would take life. That’s what’s so special in how someone can touch everyone in a way that those memories will always be with us.

I would like to share one of the most recent times that I had with Pete. It was just a short visit with him at Kadlec Hospital. Pete was being released from the hospital to be with his loving wife and family for his remaining time with us all in this lifetime. Pete was just awakening from a nap an upon seeing me he rose to shake my hand and said “hey Vinnie how the hell are ya!”. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but with that hand shake came a feeling that created a moment which in turn created a memory that I will always cherish of Pete.

  • Dear Wilma and Family,

We are very sorry for the loss of Pete. Whenever we heard that Pete and Wilma were coming to see Lois we would try to get down the street to say hello. Dean enjoyed talking about the fire department with Pete and I enjoyed just listening to Pete as he always had a good story or two to tell. I hope at this difficult time you can all take some peace knowing what a wonderful life Pete had having you all as his family.

In Friendship, Dean and Joanne Fischer
