Mattie-Lea 'Suzy' Poynor December 4, 1922 - June 26, 2010

At sunrise on the 26th day of June God opened up the gates of heaven and invited Suzy in to be reunited with her husband Harold.

Suzy was born on December 4, 1922 in Portland Oregon to George S. and Mary A. Payne.

September 25, 1942 she married the love of her life, Harold R. Poynor. On a cold day in January 1949 they moved into a ranch house in Richland with their two sons, John and Greg. In March of 1950 they had a third son Richard.

Harold worked for the Atomic Energy Commission AEC and Suzy worked as a veterinary assistant. In 1967 with the birth of her first grandchild she took on the wonderful life of a Grandmother. She was blessed with a total of six grandsons who brought great joy to her.

One of the places Suzy and Harold loved to go was Lost Lake behind Mt Hood. Every summer along with long time friends Glenn and Tee Rasmussen, they would pack up and go camping. They passed the love of Lost Lake on to their kids and then to their grandkids and great-grandkids. Still to this day every summer both their kids, grandkids and great grandkids go camping at Lost Lake. In later years Harold and Suzy would go to the Oregon Coast with their good friends Glenn and Tee during the New Year holiday.

For the past several years Suzy looked forward to four days every week; Sunday where she would attend church at Northwest Protestant Church where she was a long time member; Monday her good friend Terri and she would go shopping, work in the yard, clean house or just go to lunch. Terri and her husband Don where cherished friends and Don was always willing and able to help Suzy around the house and yard. She loved working in the yard, gardening, planting whatever to make her place look good - and it did. We would give her a bad time, that if she didn't keep it looking good Sunset Magazine would not put her on the cover. The next two days were Tuesday and Thursday were card days at the Community Center. She called it the Senior Center. Suzy met a lot of friends there and enjoyed playing Pinochle.

Suzy always enjoyed playing games and cards and she passed that interest on to her grandchildren. As the boys grew older they would go to Grandma's and play games, cards or just sit and visit. Then she taught them Pinochle and the games were "on". To this day they still talk about the great times they had at Grandma's.

Suzy is preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Payne, her husband of 46 years, Harold and her two brothers William and Clarence Payne.

Suzy is survived by her son John and wife Gail, Greg and his wife Mary Jane, Richard and his wife Cathy. She is survived by grandchildren Corey and wife Joanne, John and wife Tara, Raymond, Richard and wife Jennifer, Chris and wife Kim and Kelly, Great grandchildren; Lynn and husband Joel, Whitney, Brooke, Katy, Lexi, Jacob, Ariana, Conner, Chase, Garrett, Nicolas, Alex, Hayden, Kaycee, Katie and Rachel.

Services are at Einan's Funeral Home at 10:00 am. Monday, July 5, 2010 with a brief graveside service following. A reception will follow the services at 703 Cottonwood Loop, Richland WA.
