From Richland, WA, US | Born in Loveland, Colorado
Rowena Viola Armstrong
Rowena Viola Armstrong, 103, went to be with the Lord Jesus June 2, 2010. She was born September 5, 1906 in Loveland, Colorado to John Calvin and Florence Fulton Alps. She married Roy C. Armstrong February 14, 1927. They moved to Richland in 1946. Rowena was a kind and gentle person who always thought of others first. She was truly a humble person.
Rowena was a charter member of Richland Baptist Church, Richland, WA. Later she was a member of Northwest United Protestant Church. She loved the Lord and was active in church activities as long as she was able. Later in life she became blind and very hard of hearing but she always exhibited a sweet spirit and was easy to care for. Her favorite expression was, well take what comes and make the best of it. Her eldest son Russell was her caregiver for approximately 25 years.
The last few months of her life she had developed dementia and while she still knew who she was and recognized Russ, in her mind she was living on the ranch where she grew up. But her Christian faith was so much a part of her life that she would give devotions and lead in prayer to an audience of One.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Bessie Alps, her husband Roy, infant son Roy Russell, daughter Rosalie Anne Womack, sister Geneva Mackey, half-sisters Levonia Benson and LaVon Sapp.
She is survived by son Russell Armstrong and wife Jane of Richland, WA., daughter Elaine Anderson of Corvallis, Oregon, and son LeRoy Armstrong and wife Pat of Albany, Oregon, half-sisters and brothers, Arvilla Gaub, George Alps, Johnny Alps, and Juanita Abbot and numerous nieces and nephews.
She has 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am July 8, 2010 at Einans Funeral Home, Sunset Event Center, Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Richland Baptist Church Building Fund or Northwest United Protestant Church Memorial Fund.
