Ted passed away on June 16, 2010 at Richland Rehabilitation Center at the age of 92. Ted was born March 20, 1918 in Spokane, WA to Gustav and Augusta Schimanski. Ted married Elizabeth Betty Schildknecht on June 28, 1941 in Spokane. They lived in Spokane until 1964, and then moved to Clarkston where he resided until 2007. They enjoyed the many friends they made at Clarkston Golf and Country Club. They both scored a "hole in one" multiple times.
Ted attended Grant Grade School and Lewis Clark High School in Spokane and U of W in Seattle, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He served aboard a ship in the U. S. Navy during WWII in communications and as a "radioman" which was apparently secret code referring to "radar". Upon returning, he was employed by Western Electric, then Pacific NW Bell for 31 years as a manager.
Ted was a member of Manito Golf and Country Club in Spokane, the Elks Club, and Rotary International.
He spent his retirement years doing the things he enjoyed including golfing, fishing, and hunting. He especially enjoyed volunteer work, spending a considerable amount of time working with the Democratic Party, local community theaters, SHIBA, and RSVP.
Ted's kind nature made him a special person to all who knew him. He was loved deeply by family and friends. His values and ethics were evident to all he met. His stated goal was to always live by the "Golden Rule".
Ted moved to the Tri-Cities in 2007 and enjoyed a new chapter in his life at Charbonneau's Retirement Center, where he met his special friend Maxine Custer Ted is survived by his daughters, Kathy Clemens Dave of Rocklin, California and Lin Damrell John of Richland, WA. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Shelley Horton Joel and Kevin Damrell Brooke all of the Tri-Cities. Also surviving are 6 great grandchildren, Jessica Danoff, Jordan Danoff, Hannah Damrell, Mathew Damrell, Gunner Horton, and Asher Damrell.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert and James, and his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Betty.
At his request, no services are planned.
