Kenneth Allen Strong
Ken passed away on July 4 at home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Coquille, Oregon in 1935 to Dorward and Hazel Strong. He grew up in Lakeview, Oregon, graduating from high school in 1953. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree at Oregon State, and a Master's degree from the University of Idaho. He worked in Idaho Falls for 15 years, then went to Alaska where he worked on the oil pipeline for 3 years. He called Richland home from 1978 where he worked for a number of contractors at Hanford. During that time he left for a while to work as a quality assurance consultant at several reactors around the country but returned here to work until retirement.
Calvary Chapel was his home church where he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lola Janes, and his brother Dale who died as a baby.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, his son Kenneth D. Karen, and his daughters Terri Strong and Angie HensonBrian, two granddaughters Miranda Strong and Amy Strong, great grandchildren Alexis, Ethan, Elyza and soon to be twin boys. He is loved and will be missed. Donations may be made in Ken's name to the Boy Scouts of America or to Hospice of Tri-Cities.
Ken was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman from the time he was in his early teens. His request was that his ashes be spread on Hart Mountain in southern Oregon where he had many memories of great hunting trips. His family memorial service will be held there. There will be no service locally, but the family asks that his friends leave a message, or memory for them online at www.einansfuneralhome.com.
All of us at Shari’s in Richland met Ken many years ago. He quietly sat at our counter and slowly we became friends. We all felt so good when we finally did make friends with Ken because he was a very private person.I met his wife and we teased him about being “Ken & Barbie”! Many tears were shed on the day we found out about his death, including servers, cooks and myself, the baker.
I will miss Ken, he was such a kind and decent person.
We worked together on several Hanford projects where Ken was always known for his excellent work and his knowledge of QA requirements.
Ken and I shared a fascination with corny jokes. He loved to “one up” me by telling one that I hadn’t yet heard!
Prepare a place for me up there, my friend, I’ll see you again one day.
