Glen Wendell Hahn, 78, of Belen, NM died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque
There will be a brief graveside committal service at Sunset Memorial Gardens, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, led by pastor Steve Eriksen of Shalom United Church of Christ. Following this service friends are invited to meet with the family to share memories and light refreshments at Einan's Event Center. Memorial services were held at First United Methodist Church in Belen, NM on Friday October 15, 2010.
Glen was born son of Pauline Lindley and Beryl Hahn in Brownfield, TX on April 11, 1932. He is survived by his wife Mary Helen Meyering Hahn, son, Thad William Hahn - Los Alamos, grandson Eric William Hahn - UNM, grandson Adam Michael Hahn NMSU and in-laws Sandy and Joel Grettenberg - Lake City, MN. Glen was preceded in death by infant son, Adam W. Hahn.
Glen was a football star in Brownfield. After graduating from high school in 1950, he joined the army and was sent to Germany where he was a mechanic. After the service, he worked his way through University of Houston as a draftsman. While attending college, he married Mary after a courtship of 2 months. They lived shortly in Joliet, IL, Plaquamine and New Orleans, LA. In 1959, they moved to Richland, WA and in 1961 their son, Thad was born. Glen worked on the Hanford Project for several engineering firms including Vitro and Kaiser Engineers. He worked his way up from draftsman to eventually retiring at age 56 as Vice President of Kaiser Engineers Hanford. He was an avid golfer and sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. He served on the Richland Wine society board. In retirement, Glen and Mary took pleasure in the many summers spent with their visiting twin grandsons Adam and Eric boating the Snake River, visiting the "Creek" near Walla Walla and sightseeing in the Great Northwest. Glen's hobbies included woodworking and fixing cameras. He owned and operated Desert Camera Repair from his home. Glen was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He made custom furniture and always enjoyed remodeling projects. Mary and Glen traveled extensively tracing ancestors. In 2000, they became snowbirds and made their winter home in Brenda, AZ. They made many friends in AZ, enjoyed ATV riding and returned for 9 winters. In June 2007, the year of their 50th anniversary, Glen had triple bypass surgery and since that time his health has declined. In April, 2009 Glen's right lung collapsed. In July, Glen and Mary moved to Sunrise Bluffs in Belen, NM to be near son Thad Hahn and Grandsons Adam and Eric. Glen enjoyed living at Sunrise Bluffs and appreciated his great neighbors and friends. In August 2009, his other lung collapsed and he became dependent on oxygen. Glen joined the First United Methodist Church and was appreciative of their support.
He was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather and we miss him greatly.
Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Belen, NM.
Mary & Thad; You are in my thoughts and prayers. I remember the old days doing things with your family. Glen always caught the most and biggest fish. Memories are forever.
