From Kennewick, WA, US | Born in Richland, WA
Ricardo Evahn Garcia
Ricardo Evahn Garcia, 52 years old, passed away peacefully at his home in Kennewick in the late evening hours of October 24th, 2010. Rick was born to Ivan M.A. Garcia and Rose Marie Garcia on December 24th, 1957 in Richland, Washington. Other than a few years spent on the west of the Cascades, Rick was a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities.
Rick attended Richland schools where he made many lifelong friends. Through adulthood, he particularly enjoyed the company of Jim Kammeyer and Kathy McFall. One of his high school friends, Myron Schauss and his wife Kim, became more like family than friends as their relationship grew. Myron recalls meeting Rick during their sophomore year at Col High on the day he got his driver's license. Rick was living at the home of Myron and Kim, and their two sons Jack and Mason at the time of Rick's passing.
Rick spent his adult career working as an in-home care provider to those less able to take care of their personal needs. His intellect, big heart, and friendly demeanor brought a freshness into the homes of his clients. He touched many lives through this service. During this time, Rick himself fought an arduous 5-year battle with cancer and associated illnesses.
Rick will be remembered by family and friends as being intellectually gifted. His wit's abundance was revealed in his keen sense of political humor. No one could win a living room debate when pitted against this man, with his vast background on political issues. Before his Dad's death, if Rick felt the need to bring stimulation to everyone's day, he could stop by and switch the channel from Fox to MSNBC to get the "conversation" started. There are few people with the true appreciation of political humor, backed with extreme intelligence, who could surpass Ricardo Garcia. Stephen Colbert will be taking a second seat in Heaven!
Besides his love of politics, anyone who knew Rick well, knew of his appreciation for extensive and complete collections. He leaves a vast assortment of hydro plane pins Water Follies dating back to the first Atomic Cup. He also collected Nascar memorabilia, and true to the satirical element of his personality, a variety of airline emergency procedures and barf bags!
Rick leaves behind his Little Sis, Laura Buchanan Mark of Richland, his sister Francine Shook of California, his stepbrother Tim Montgomery Teresa and stepsister Debbie Bell Norm. He also leaves Myron and Kim Schauss, his truest of friends. He was preceded in death by his father Ivan M.A. Garcia, mother Rose Marie Garcia, and brother Michael Garcia.
The family invites you to join them at the home of Laura and Mark Buchanan in a Celebration of Rick's life on Saturday, November 6th, at 1:00 P.M. Private church services will be held earlier. For directions to the Buchanan home, please call Laura at 943-9910.
I was Ricardo’s neighbor back in 1963 until 1976. We didn’t get to play flag football because Ricardo’s father protected his son from the possibility of getting injured. In the months of our engagement, from November 1998 until July 8th, of the year 1999; he would tell me stories of just how protected he really was growing up. One of his favorite activities he would recall as a child was how he sent angle worms down the gutter full of water. He also pounded out hundreds of nails from two by fours for his father during his many projects around the home. We had a great friendship, even after we divorced in December 2000. I will always have a wealth of memories from Rick. One of my favorites, though, is when he sweet-talked a dozen red roses from one of the performers at the Nutcracker in 2001, and handed them to me in the middle of it! He treated me like a queen, even after we were no longer together…I will deeply miss him. I am looking forward to seeing him, once again, in Heaven.
I have a lot of good memories of Rick back in our school years. He was one of the nicest people I knew. I think the last time I talked to him was when he was at 7-11. I send my condolences to all his friends and family. Rick I hope to see you on the other side my friend.
My son, Brian Sullivan, and Rick were friends from their first day at Spalding School. His mother and I became friends shortly thereafter. Lovely lady. Ivan was their scout leader. Brian and Rick continued their friendship through Carmichael Jr. High. Brian lives in Seattle and hoped to join you Saturday in your remembrance of Rick, but prior work commitments won’t allow. Our thoughts are with you, Laura. It is so sad to see Rick die, he was far too young.
My condolences to Ricks family and to Myron and his family. I pray for God to comfort you all through this difficult time and to find peace. Say not sadly that he left us, rather celebrate that he was here. God Bless.
I was just informed tonight of Rick’s passing. I remember Rick well. Some from HS, but mostly from the 7-11 on Wright St. I lived on Fries st. around the time Rick worked there! I always enjoyed stopping in there when he was working! He always had nice things to say, making me always feel good, about just being me! When I didn’t see him there anymore, I wondered where he went. It was never the same, without him there! I’m saddened to hear he has passed so soon in his young life! He definately made an impact on my life, and I will never forget him!
Sincerely,
Debbie Pietz
I love you Rick. Always have and always will. :
