Loren Martin Cone
Loren Martin Cone went home to be with his lord and Savior in Richland, WA on December 6, 2010. He was 89 years of age. Loren was born in Princeton, Idaho on October 13, 1921 to Elvin Louis and Hazel Belle Cone. Loren has one younger sister, Edna Mae Flynn who resides in Portland, OR.
Loren's early years were in northern Idaho, living in Elk River, Potlatch, Weippe and later Moscow. He attended high school for three years in Potlatch then attended and graduated from Weippe High School his last year. The family later moved to Portland Oregon where Loren worked in the shipping yards prior to enlistment in the Army Air Force.
Loren was a WWII veteran, having served with the Army Air Force out of the 244th AAF base unit. He was a radio operator and mechanic on the B-29 aircraft. He had been assigned to the 788th squadron waiting on a new plane B-29 arrival to be deployed overseas when the war ended. He was honorably discharged having just received his stripes as Sergeant. Loren very proudly served his country.
Loren married the love of his life, Evangeline B. Gilliam Paul on June 8, 1949 in the Moscow Idaho Church of the Nazarene. They raised two daughters, Paula and Jeannie.
Loren worked for Washington Water Power as a meter reader, and later following a move to Spokane, WA became a postal worker. Following their retirement, Loren and Evangeline moved to Nampa, Idaho. They enjoyed attending and being a part of College Church of the Nazarene.
Loren was preceded in death by his loving wife Evangeline in October of 2009, his parents Elvin and Hazel Cone, brother-in-law Leroy Flynn and grand-daughter Whitney Crocker.
Loren is survived by his loving and devoted daughters and their families; Paula Cone and Gene Benjamin of Richland, WA, and grandchildren Amber and Josh Truelove of Nampa, ID, and Justin Benjamin of Richland, WA; Jeannie Cone and Dr. Dennis Crocker of Granger IN, and grandchildren Nichole Crocker of Olathe, KS, and DJ and Lizzy with great-granddaughter Sabina Crocker of Gardner KS, and Tori Crocker of Granger, IN. Loren is also survived by his loving sister Edna Flynn of Portland, OR, several loving brothers and sisters-in-law, many loving nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.
Burial was held in the Veterans section at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 915 By-Pass Highway in Richland and a memorial and celebration of Loren's life was held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at Bethel Church, 600 Shockley RD in Richland.
We want to thank Dr. Arnulfo Deray, Dr. Fred Foss, Dr. SK Wadhwa, all the staff and wonderful caregivers at Guardian Angel Homes and Tri-Cities Hospice for their compassionate care of Loren. It has brought great comfort and support to us as a family knowing that he had such wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Loren's name to Hospice at the Chaplaincy, 2108 W. Entiat Ave. Kennewick, WA 99336.
