Nancy Sponseller
Nancy Sponseller passed away at home on Saturday, March 5, 2011. She was born on November 27, 1934 in Oak Park, Illinois to Paul and Mary Drexler. She was raised in Western Springs, Illinois and graduated from Lyons Township High School. While attending Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado she met her future husband Ron Sponseller. Nancy and Ron were married on August 5, 1955. Ron's job with Westinghouse took them to several manufacturing locations including: Sharon, PA; Muncie, IN; Philadelphia, PA; Charlotte, NC; Pittsburgh, PA; and finally to Richland, WA in March of 1977. They also spent a brief time in Keokuk, IA in 1967. In addition to being a homemaker, Nancy worked at several jobs including being a bank teller, and income tax consultant. She was an accomplished knitter and won several prizes for her work at the Benton-Franklin County Fair. Her other interest involved sports as both a participant and spectator. She was a life long Chicago Cubs fan and after moving to Pittsburgh became a Steelers fan as well. In Charlotte, NC and Pittsburgh, PA she organized a girl's slow softball league. A day that made her proud was when she led her team to the championship. As a member of the Tri-City Country Club, Nancy spent many years of enjoyment golfing and playing bridge with her family and friends. Offering her time as a volunteer with the Kadlec Medical Center Auxiliary for several years was another fulfilling time for Nancy.
She is survived by her husband Ron, daughters Karen Dolan Tom and Lynn Westerman Tom and grandchildren Steven and Marcus Dolan; and Brett and Blair Westerman.
She was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Mary Drexler and her son Steve.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Nancy's life at 2:00pm, Saturday, March 19 at the First Presbyterian Church, 2001 West Kennewick Avenue in Kennewick.
In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to Hospice at The Chaplaincy.
