William T. Susiene

William Bill T Susiene, 73, a long-time resident of Pasco, WA, peacefully passed away June 7, 2011 at Kadlec Medical Center following a battle with chronic lung disease.

He was born on December 4, 1937, in Spokane, Washington to Vivian Taylor and William Susiene. An only child, Bill grew up in Pasco where his parents owned the first public restaurant Susiene's, which was the principal dining establishment for Hanford employees building the H-bomb during WWII. Bill graduated from Pasco High in 1956 and eventually went on to attend the University of Washington where he received a B.A. in International Business in 1968.

While attending college he met the love of his life, Linda Hoffarth, and they were married on December 16, 1967. Together for 43 years, they built a warm, loving family which included three children Carina, Louise, and William H and many pets. Bill's kind heart always welcomed those in need, and so his family often shared their home temporarily with friends and other family members who needed a helping hand.

Bill worked as a project engineer and later an estimating engineer for J.A. Jones, Kaiser, and Fluor Hanford until he retired in 2004. During his career, he wrote contracts, calculated budget estimates, and managed construction execution for large government projects. Some of these projects included the Minuteman and Titan missile silos, F-111 cockpit canopies, the 200 Area Evaporators, nuclear and coal-fired power plant construction, and vitrification plant construction. Bill's career gave his family the opportunity to travel and see the country, as they lived for several years in Michigan and Idaho. Bill also made several business trips to foreign countries such as Mexico and Russia.

Bill was an avid traveler, both at work and at home. At the time of his death, he had visited almost every state in the U.S. and had been to a dozen countries. In addition to travel, his hobbies over the years included cooking and eating, games especially cards and chess, computer activities surfing the internet and building Excel spreadsheets, and square dance. He was an active member of his high school reunion planning committee, keeping in touch with semi-yearly activities. He loved Blue Grass music and good food, and was a supporter of MCTAMA Blue Grass & Cast Iron Cooking. With strong roots to the Tri-Cities, he was also a long-time supporter of the Franklin County Historical Society and the local Republican party.

Bill will forever be in the hearts of his loving wife, Linda, his daughters Carina Jason Lansing and Louise Halverson, his son Will Chrissy, his granddaughter Trinity Higginbotham, his father-in-law Simon Hoffarth, and his sister-in-law Nancy Walker. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian, his father, William, and his granddaughter Delilah 5 months.

A public viewing will be held at Einan's Funeral Home in Richland on Saturday, June 18th from 1-3:30 pm, with a reception to follow at 4 pm at the Country Gentleman, 9221 W. Clearwater Ave., Kennewick. The reception will include a slide show depicting Bill's life, an open microphone for sharing stories, various displays and mementos, and refreshments. Feel free to email pictures and/or your best memory of Bill to Carina at thecarinal@gmail.com.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the reception contact Shirley at the Country Gentleman, 509 783-0128 or Shirley@cgcatering.com, or donations may be made to the Franklin County Historical Society 305 North Fourth Avenue, Pasco, WA 99301, 509 547-3714.

A Lifetime with Bill A lifetime of memories you've left in my heart. Adventures and wonders right from the start. We've wandered together in foreign lands, and faced life's trials while holding hands. The most precious gift you gave to me, our wonderful children, our beloved family. I can't say goodbye. I can't mourn for me. You struggled so hard and needed to be free. I'll say thank you God for giving me this man, and count my blessings for the time we had.

Your Loving Wife, Linda
