DOROTHY G. DOUGLAS Dorothy Galloway Douglas, age 93, of Kennewick, Washington, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Kennewick General Hospital from heart failure after a heart attack.
Dorothy was born July 30, 1918, to Louie Altheimer Galloway and Carrie Gould Galloway in Jefferson County, Arkansas. She was the fourth of seven children and the oldest girl among her siblings. She grew up in Eudora, Arkansas, where she met and married Smith Walker Douglas, Jr. "S. W." on Christmas Day, 1937. They subsequently moved to Memphis, Tennessee. At the start of World War II, Dorothy and S. W., who was in the Marine Corps, moved to Paris Island, South Carolina. While S. W. served in the Pacific theater, Dorothy returned to Eudora to be with family until the war was over. After the war, Dorothy and her family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1947, she and her family moved to Richland, Washington. In 1991, after the death of S. W., Dorothy moved to the Royal Columbian Retirement Inn in Kennewick. Finally in 2009, she moved to the English Rose Manor assisted living facility in Kennewick.
Dorothy is survived by her four children, S. W. Douglas III, M.D., and wife Diane of Seattle, Washington, David M. Douglas and wife Aileen of Kaneohe, Hawaii, James G. Douglas and wife Annette of Pasco, Washington, and Marc B. Douglas and wife Cheryle of Hillsboro, Oregon. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Gregory Alan Douglas and wife Racquel of Newberg, Oregon, Rodger Douglas of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Emiko Douglas Bauer and husband Steve of Gilbert, Arizona, Patrick Walker Douglas of Seattle, Washington, and Michael Richard Douglas of Pasco, Washington. Finally, Dorothy leaves behind five great-grandchildren: Ian Walker Douglas and Elizabeth Grace Douglas of Newberg, Oregon, and Daniel Akio Bauer, Paul Keiji Bauer, and Michael Kiyoshi Bauer of Gilbert, Arizona.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband S. W., and her brothers and sisters Louie Altheimer Galloway, Jr., Wilson Gould Galloway, Sterling Walter Galloway, June Ruth Galloway Roach, Carrie Gould Galloway, and Helen Galloway Thompson.
During her life, Dorothy was employed as a U. S. Navy quality control inspector during World War II, and as a laboratory technician at the Hanford Site from 1948 to 1953. For most of her adult life she was a homemaker. She and her husband were active members of Richland Baptist Church, Richland, Washington. Her chief enjoyments were her family, church activities, family genealogy, and reading.
Dorothy's memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, at Richland Baptist Church, 1632 George Washington Way, Richland, Washington. A grave-side service and internment will occur immediately after the memorial service at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 915 Bypass Highway, Richland, Washington, with reception to follow at Memories at Sunset Event Center at the cemetery. Viewing hours are 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, at Einan's Funeral Home, Sunset Memorial Gardens.

I am so sadden by the loss of such a sweet and kind lady.I got to be very closs to Dorthy as her caregiver and friend as well.My thoughts and prayers go out to her wonderful family during her stay at English Rose Manor.I will always have a special place in my heart for my dear Dorthy.Thank you Jim and Anette for all you have done for all our residents!!

Walker, David, Jim, and Marc: My sincerest sympathy and love to you and your families. Her sons were her everything but her daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren only made her “everything” bigger and better. Aunt Dot was a dear aunt and reminded me so much of my own mother. I know they are happily reunited in heaven.
