Patricia Rose Delong Crownover
Patricia Rose Delong Crownover of Richland passed away the morning of Tuesday, July 27th. She was born St. Patrick's Day 1927, in Uttleyville, CO but at the age of 8 her family moved to Cedaredge, CO to escape the dust bowl. At 15, the family moved to San Francisco. There at the local church, she met her true love, Mel Crownover. They eventually married and, kids in tow, settled in eastern Washington in 1947 where jobs were plentiful around the Hanford site. While managing her growing family, Pat completed a Bachelor's in elementary education. She began teaching at Jefferson Elementary and continued her education, earning two Master's degrees: one in Librarianship and one in Family Guidance and Counseling. She retired in 1982 as head librarian at Hanford High School.
Active in retirement, Pat volunteered for Kadlec Medical Center Auxiliary as well as teaching piano lessons, attending book and garden clubs, nurturing grandchildren, and kicking butt at Scrabble. She co-owned Kid Sense, a private child placement agency, and was a court-appointed special advocate. She was particularly dedicated in her faith and devotion to the Community of Christ Church, contributing as choir director, pianist, preacher, and counselor. Pat was loving, generous, and quick witted. She set a great example for her family and she will be missed by many, but especially grammarians.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, husband Mel Crownover, daughters Pamela Crownover Jenkins, Dola Crownover, and Melissa Crownover, and one son, Eric Crownover. She is survived by three daughters, Paula Thrall Sam, Phyllis Leonard Don, Martha Crownover Harold Moller, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Richland Community of Christ, 1104 Long Avenue corner of Swift and Long on Saturday July 30th at 2pm. There will be a celebration of her life immediately following in the church basement. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice or Outreach International at PO Box 210 Independence, MO, 64051.
The family would like to express their most heartfelt appreciation to Legacy Homes, especially Tranquility Manor for their loving and expert care.
Dear Crownover Families…I remember your Mom along with your sister Pamela from Sacajawea Grade School. The last time I saw the both of them was at graduation in 1964…I later saw your Mom as a ‘pink lady’ at Kadlec Hospital in 1983. What a great lady.
Best wishes to the entire family.

So interesting I learned a lot about Pat I didn’t know. I have a fond memory of her with how much she enjoyed shopping at Dillard’s here in Midland. God Bless the family. Love, Guy & Beverley
We wish we could be with your family at this time. But please know you are in our hearts and prayers. Gail
Pat was so amazing. After reading about her life, I was surprised to see how much she did. I always thought of Pat as a mom but she was that and much more! I am thinking about all of you. I hope that you experience joy and happiness through the process of saying goodbye to your incredible mom and grandmother.
Love, Elaine
Dear Crownover Families…Please accept my condolences on the loss of your Mom. She was a treasure. I remember her as Pam’s Mom from Sacajawea Grade school. I last saw your Mom at Kadlec Hospital in 1984. She was volunteering her time in those days.

What wonderful memories we have of our good friend and neighbor Pat. From playing scrabble with her and working with her as well as having her call and sing happy birthday to me every year. Such a lovely peron with a beautiful voice and soul. Our blessings to all her wonderful family.
As a member of the RLDSor now the Community of Christ Church, I remember Pat very well as a young man growing up in the church. I have many good memories of her kindness and humility and a lot of memories of Mel and the girls. Pat taught me how to play the piano and I was in their home many times. May God Bless her family at this time and always. Greg Ellen and Ruth Hobson
Dear Phyllis, Paula, Martha and families, Our prayers are with you at this difficult time.
Pat has been a shining light for my faith walk since 1969 when we first met. She was the first woman to be called 1988to the priesthood in our home congregation of Community of Christ Richland WA. That speaks to the quality of ministry and leadership roles she offered to us, her congregation. It speaks to the loving generosity of her nature. She truly stood in the stead of Jesus Christ in her ministry. Thank you, Pat. Thank you for the love, music, humor and wisdom that you brought to us. Thank you for your family that continues to bless the world with similar gifts. You did well. May they be blessed with comfort in their loss.
Love! Barbara Miller-Collins & Chris Collins

I saw the obituary in the paper and reflected on my early childhood years at Jefferson elementary school. I had “Mrs Crownover” for my teacher and told my wife that I felt she was a wonderful person and absolutely the BEST teacher I could remember. I am sorry for your loss. She truely left an impression on me….

Dear Phyllis, Paula and Martha,
I was sad to hear that your mother passed away and sad that I could not attend her memorial service. The positive impact Pat and your whole family has had on my life is hard to describe even though it has been years since living near you all. But it is easy to say that my life has been much richer because of knowing your mother and the rest of the Crownovers. Pat was skilled at many things, especially living a joyful life inspite of difficulties. I can only imagine her joy now in the next stage of her life, free from the struggles of this world.
I will be thinking and praying for you all at this time of loss.
I was saddened to hear of Pat’s passing recently. She was the most awesome head librarian at Hanford. She always had a smile for the students when they would walk through the doors of the library. I remember always feeling welcome there and never felt like I was a bother. To Pat’s family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Your mom was a wonderful lady.
