EVA ERNIE ERNESTINE PISCHEL 1929-2011
Ernie was 82 years old when she was ready to meet her Lord and Savior. She was called home on August 25, 2011. She and her family have lived in the Tri-Cities since 1955. For the past several weeks she had been a patient at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. It was her second bout with cancer. She wanted to come home to Pasco one more time and in Gods perfect timing and plan, she made it. Ernie was born in Marceline, Missouri on June 10, 1929 to parents Charles and Angeline Hammond.
Growing up and going to school in Marceline she met her husband, Bob Pischel, when she was a freshman in high school and he was a senior.
When Bob graduated from high school he went into the Navy. When Ernie graduated from high school they were married on June 2, 1947. Bob had a traveling job with a yearbook printing company. Together they traveled the 48 states before deciding to go into their own yearbook printing business.
After five years of being in business Bob and Ernie opened up a branch of the business out West in Pasco, Washington. When the business was sold in the 70s they were working with over 2000 schools in both plants.
Ernie is survived by her husband, Bob and 5 children, son Robin, and wife Michelle, son Scoter, and his wife Angie, son Tyson, and his wife Linda, daughter Lark, and her husband Geoff and daughter Piper. Ernie and Bob have 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. They were all proud of her. Nonie to her grandchildren. They were the light of her life.
Ernie and Bob worked side by side for many years but more than that they loved raising their five children and playing side by side with all of them and the grandchildren. Waterskiing on the Columbia River, horseback riding, tennis, swimming, going to the cabin in the Blue Mountains. Just two years ago Nonie was still going on the annual snow ski bash and skiing!
Ernies passion was her personal relationship with Jesus Christ and she loved her Bible and talking about God to everyone she met. She was active in Bible Study Fellowship for over 30 years and the culmination was this year when she was able to take her grandson, Robert, and great-grandson, Cade to the evening BSF class. She loved helping them with their Bible lessons. In May of this year the boys came to Nonie and told her that they wished to be baptized and declare their profession of faith in Jesus.
Oh what joy filled her heart. It is written in Proverbs 31: 28-31 Her children arise and call her blessed...a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
We would be remiss if we did not mention that our mom was the most giving and generous person we have ever known. Dont ever say I like that or it was yours! The sun would rise and set with her only thought being of what she could do for others today. Then she would set about doing it...never sitting down until going to bed at night. Day after day, this was her life. She filled journal after journal of prayers for her family. She was a woman after Gods own heart. Loved by everyone - our beloved Nonie. If ever the scripture applied it would be with Eva Ernie Pischel...Well done, good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:23.
Services to be held Saturday, Sept. 3, at South Hills Church, 3700 West 27th, Kennewick at 11:00am.
You know I have never heard a negative word about Ernie or Bob.I guess our loss is the Lords gain but we will miss her great smile here on earth. We’ll be praying for your family ! Love you guys!
I was saddened to learn of Ernie’s passing. I remember her as an uplifting personality that never let anything get her down due to her faith. Ernie was a great role model for our youth!
Oh what a loss , I loved Ernie, she was a dear little lady. I remember her having an Ocelot which gave me terrible asthma attacks…I remember those wonderful hydroplane races that we were privileged to watch from their home…I always made apricot ice cream for the dessert… She was so dear to me at the “reunion” of all us yearbook workers, fond memories…I love all of you who grieve…
I am sorry that you will be have to go on without your sweet wife, momma, grandma, but so happy that we know the rest of the story and you’ll see her again!!! She was indeed a very sweet woman. God bless you all.
Love you all ! will miss my special Lady !

Ernie’s bright light has not been extinguished, but now shines brighter in heaven. The Pischel’s were the first friends I made when I moved to Pasco at the age of 8. I was in awe of Ernie since then. She was a strong, beautiful, caring woman who gifted all of us with a great example of how to live life to the fullest with integrity and purpose. Her great faith was a true beacon to everyone she met. Love and blessings to all the Pischels as you celebrate her remarkable life and mourn her passing. I love you, Laurie
What a life! What a lady! My first memories of “Mrs. Pischel” were when I worked for Bob & Ernie at Pischel’s Yearbooks in 1965. I quickly became drawn to Ernie as a regal, loving & kind mentor. She exuded the love of Jesus in every step, every word, and every deed. She graciously opened her home for years for boat races where many would enjoy her sweet hospitality. No matter where Floyd & I would run into her and Bob, they were always inquiring as to how how “you” were. The last time I saw the two was this past year. We were all having “pedi’s” on Court Street. Although frail, she was still full of life and the love of Jesus. The words that came to me at that time were “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:15. That is just what she did all her life. An exemplary model of the Proverbs 31 woman. She was called blessed by her family and all of us who knew her.
I met the Pichels at an early age through Emanuel Baptist Church in 1967. It was the first year of the Water Follies on the Columbia River.
The thing that drew me to the Pichel’s was the way that they were so loving and hospitable toward others. I wished my family could be like hers.
My children are Leonna and Kevin Firestone.
I would like to wish the family my deepest condolences. Eva will be greatly missed.
