Thomas A Dezember
Thomas "Tom" Alan Dezember returned home to the loving embrace of his Father in Heaven on the evening of August 22. He passed away with his wife, sons, and grandchildren at his side after a two year battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. Tom was born September 23, 1946 in Evansville, Indiana to Jack and Marjorie Dezember and was the eldest of four children. Tom spent his formative years in Evansville except for brief stints living in Charleston, South Carolina and Bakersfield, California and it was in Evansville that he met Suzanne, his soul mate and the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, and his partner for eternity.
Tom joined the Army directly out of high school in 1964 where he served four years stationed throughout Fort Ord, California, Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas and Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. Upon his discharge in 1967 Tom promptly returned to Evansville to marry Suzanne. Tom and Suzanne both attended The University of Evansville where Tom earned his B.A. in Social Studies Education. It was by chance that Tom found a job at a coal power plant in Evansville and, while working for the same company, moved around the mid-west spending time in Indiana and Tennessee until 1979 when he, his wife, and their three sons moved to Phoenix, Arizona to begin a career in nuclear power. During these years Tom and Suzanne were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where Tom was a loyal servant of his Heavenly Father until the very end.
Tom, Suzanne, and his sons Stuart, Ian, and Duffy then moved to the Tri-Cities, WA in the fall of 1980 where he was employed for WPPS and Energy Northwest for the next 30 years. Their fourth son Ted was added to the family in 1982 and it was here in the Tri-Cities with his family that Tom found true happiness and was the most content. Tom loved playing racquet ball, riding his bicycle, coaching his son's sports teams, and playing golf. He was assuredly most happy when watching his sons and then his grandchildren play sports never missing a game in 20 years. Tom retired in April of 2009 from Energy Northwest and spent the next two years spending as much time with his family as possible creating many precious and memorable moments with them. Tom was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease in January of 2010, never once complaining or showing a hint of self-pity which was definitive of his character as a person.
Tom is preceded in death by his father Benjamin Jack Dezember, his mother Marjorie Dolores Bradley Dezember, his brother Ted Eugene, and his sister Tamara. He is survived by his brother Terry Wayne Mary Dezember, his wife Suzanne, and his four sons Stuart Renee, Ian Christine, Duffy Kelli and Ted Ashley. Tom also has eight grandchildren that he loved intensely, Kendall Gene, Brinley Noelle, Cooper Jack, Hadley Hope, Benjamin Morris, Camryn Jean, Mason Stuart, and Kade Christian Dezember.
A public viewing will be held at Einan's Funeral Home Thursday 8/25 evening from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be at the LDS chapel at 3701 Watkins Way, Richland, WA 99353 at 1 pm on Friday, August 26, 2011. A second public viewing will be held the day of the funeral from 11:15-12:30 at the same location.

Dear Sister Dezember and family:
We were saddened to learn of the passing of your husband, father and grandfather. I didn’t know Brother Dezember well, but during the times that we were associated he was a gregarious, enthusiastic individual and fun to be around. It seems that both of you sang at times in my Stake Choirs and I really appreciated your participation. I was impressed with his obituary which expressed the type of man he was–the man who became the partiarch of your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all and our profound sympathy goes out to you!

Suzanne and Family,
Our prayers are with all of you during this time. I pray that the memories you have will carry you through this difficult time and bring light into dark days. The Dezember family will forever be in our prayers.
Suzanne & family,
We are so sorry to hear of Tom’s passing & pray God’s special Comfort to be with you during this time.
We are so sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. Tom and the Dezember family are a very large part of our memories in West Richland. The Pepin-Donat family were blessed by knowing this gentle man. His strength of charactor and gentle demeanor were examples for all of us. Michael and Kenyon have many good memories of Tom. We will miss him but know that he is in God’s hands.
Suzanne and Family,
Tom was always a good example for me and our family. I enjoyed our car pool and racket ball games. We will miss his positive and smiling face.
Love you all
Mike and Cathy
I am so sorry to hear of the loss. Tom is an amazing man and was a wonderful asset to the church. Even though I stopped going he was always happy to see me and how “big” my kids have grown. I am deeply saddened that ALS took another father/grandfather away..as my Dad lost his battle to ALS in 2008. I will be there supporting the ALS walk and do many fundraisers for ALS. I unfortunately get to add another name to my fundraising efforts to help find a cure. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this very difficult time.
I am so sorry for your loss. Tom was so special. He always lifted my spirits when I passed him or had a moment to say hello to him at work. May God hold you all close and keep you all in His Loving care until you are all together again. In Christ Love, Terri Jones
Suzanne and Family
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Tom was a special friend with a kind heart and gentle soul.
My prayers are with each member of your family for strength to get you through this temporary pain and suffering until we can join our family members in heaven where we will have everlasting happiness.
So sorry for your loss, Tom will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
I pray for Heavenly Father to comfort the Dezember family. Brother Dezember is a wonderful person. I remember him bearing his testimony during Fast/Testimony meetings when we attended Highlands Ward. His testimony encouraged me to become a better person. He was always reminding us to ensure that all Priesthood Holders got our Home Teaching done. What a delight it was seeing him and his wife in Temple. I pray the entire family is comforted during this time of loss hear on earth.
God Bless.
So sorry to hear the news about Tom. I grew up with Tom in Country Club Manor in Evansville. We played alot of baseball together. I’m sure he was a fine man and will be missed by all that knew and loved him. He was a great young man. God Bless You Tom.
I am sorry to hear about Ben’s Grandpa. I am confident that he heard about Ben’s Grand Slam and may have been at that game this past Little League season. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dezember family.
I think the first time that I had the opportunity to visit with Tom was when we were helping someone move into the ward. He was always giving of himself when he could. He is an incredible person that has been a blessing to me and my family.
