JoAnn Reane Steinkruger Goldsbury Petersen Born February 15, 1933 , Deceased October 19, 2011

Jo went to her final home on the evening of October 19th surrounded by her loving family . She was another victim of Alzheimer's.

She displayed an acute sense of humor that began with her father who provided a French middle name in remembrance of a young French girl he met during WWI. She was born on a farm outside the small farming community of Franklin, Nebraska as the youngest child and only girl to Henry Steinkruger and Lydia Folker Steinkruger. Unfortunately her mother succumbed to cancer before Jo reached her 18th birthday. Jo married a hometown boy, John Goldsbury, when she was 18. Like many young marriages, it was eventually dissolved in 1970 but yielded 3 wonderful children.

This Nebraska farm girl remarried a city kid raised in Seattle on April 17, 1971. The country girl and the city guy clicked, clashed and loved one another for the rest of her life. Together they built the foundation for a prominent Tri-City business, traveled through the Canadian Rockies, visited Myrtle Beach South Carolina for golf, visited London, the Cotswold's, Madrid, Acapulco and Hawaii. Their favorite retreat remained the Oregon Coast where they spent their honeymoon.

Jo was a people person. She loved her growing family, her church and her many friends. Her community activities included the Pasco Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Children's Hospital Guild and, as a very early member of West Highlands United Methodist Church, a loyal choir member as well as several church offices. She later became a member of PEO, and a volunteer and supporter of the Tri City Cancer Center.

Like most Nebraskans, Jo was a lifelong Husker fan. She pretended to support the Huskies to please her husband. She was a charter member of the Tri City Court Club where she enjoyed tennis and later water aerobics until her health failed. She also enjoyed nine-holer golf at the Tri City Country Club.

In April 2010, her husband was no longer able to provide Jo the care she deserved and she moved to Fleur de Lis where she received world-class tender and loving care. Hospice helped provide comfort during her final days.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Petersen, her children Angela Jeff Filip, Jeff Bonnie Goldsbury, and Tracy Kevin Richards, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by stepchildren, Cyndi Petersen, Jeff Marj Petersen, Jill Major Jean "Johny" Maisonnueve, and Erik Susan Petersen together with 6 step grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her two brothers Bill and Dean Steinkruger, and stepdaughter, Kelli Sladek.

A private family internment was held on Monday October 24, 2011. A memorial celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 19, 2011 at 1PM at West Highlands United Methodist Church located at 17 South Union in Kennewick.

Any memorials to Inland Northwest Alzheimer's Association at 910 West 5th Ave, Suite 256, Spokane, WA 99204 would be deeply appreciated by the family.

  • I have lots of fun memories of Aunt Joanne and cousins Tracy and Jeff spending time in the summer at my parents home in Franklin. I know my Dad enjoyed having his little sister back on the farm and I enjoyed spending time with Tracy and Jeff jumping on the trampoline in the back yard and swimming at the Franklin pool.

Aunt Joanne was a beautiful and vibrate lady and will be missed by her family and friends.

I find comfort in knowing that she is with her heavenly father and her two big brothers Bill and Dean and I look foward to seeing them all again someday.

  • My condolences go out to Jim and the family. I first met Jo when she was a secretary for Critchlow, Williams and Ryals. Many years ago-she was always a nice lady. Be tough, Jim, life does go on and Jo is in a better place with no pain.

  • Jo was always so friendly. It was a pleasure knowing her and visiting with her at the golf course about her golf game. More recently I was able to visit with her at Fleur de Lis. My wife LeeIlah who was also a resident there enjoyed being able to visit there with Jo.

  • Aunt JoAnn was a inspiration to me. She left Nebraska and went West! When I was in the 7th grade my mom and dad, Bill and Lela Steinkruger, took us four kids to visit and Aunt JoAnn had a house with a swimming pool! She was the Best! She treated us so well when she visited us and had a sense of adventure. She could make me laugh and think of things in new ways. I am glad I had her in my life.

  • To the family of JoAnne — please accept our most sincere condolences on the loss of such a wonderful woman! JoAnne “Stinky” is part of my earliest memories. She graduated with my brother-in-law a year ahead of my sister and I remember her being present at many gatherings at our house while Sharon “Nini” and Charlie were babysitting me. The world will be less happy without her presence! God bless!
