Margaret Elaine Johnson

Margaret E. "Molly" Johnson, longtime Richland resident, passed away November 18, 2011, at Guardian Angel Homes. She was 87 years old.

Molly was born September 2, 1924, the ninth of eleven children born to William and Nellie Johnson in Chisholm, Minnesota. After graduation from high school in 1942, she joined the WAVES Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service where she was stationed in San Francisco. After her discharge, she returned to Minnesota where she met Harry Johnson while working at General Mills in Minneapolis. They married in June 1948 and moved to Richland in 1950.

While raising six children kept Molly busy, she still found time for bridge club, bowling, and leading a Brownie troop. When the kids were in high school, she became a big fan of Richland Bomber basketball, driving to Yakima in the snow to attend games and also to Spokane and Seattle for tournaments. She loved to travel, taking trips to Ireland and Germany once the kids left home. She also enjoyed playing tennis, learning to play in her 50's and continuing to play well into her 60's. Family and friends were a big part of Molly's life and her fun-loving personality will always be remembered.

Molly was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, six brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by sons Thomas Johnson, Kennewick and Robert Johnson, Olympia; daughters Elaine Hunt, Longview, Jean Dana, Pueblo, Colorado, Ann Ullom, West Richland, and Janet Hansen, Bellingham; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and sisters Ruth Eckel and Pat Eikos, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Einan's Funeral Chapel in Richland.
