David Lawrence Hornbeck

David Lawrence Hornbeck passed away at his home in Richland on December 14th, 2011. In his 37 years, his infectious smile and unique sense of humor touched the lives of so many people. Dave's quick wit and goofy antics made a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Dave excelled as an athlete and possessed an unparalleled competitive drive that showed in everything he did. His passion for his family and sports was apparent throughout his life. When Dave wasn't working as a sales manager for Coca-Cola, playing sports or lifting weights, he was spending time with his family. His sons meant the world to him.

Dave was born in Sedro Woolley, Washington on May 27, 1974. He attended Richland and Concrete High School, where he played baseball, football, and basketball. He was named All-State Wide Receiver and set the record for interceptions as a safety his senior year. He graduated from Concrete High School in 1992.

Dave was an amazing father, husband, brother, son, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He is survived by wife Amy; sons Cole 17 and Jacob 2; mom Debbie James; siblings Daryl, Jody, and Dustin Hornbeck; dad Robert Hornbeck and wife Sherry; half-siblings Tyler and Teresa Murphy; grandmother Sandy Geiser; many family members and countless friends.

The memorial service is at Memories Sunset Event Center in Richland, Washington at 1pm on December 21st, 2011. For those who wish to make donations, the Hornbeck family recommends that donations be made to youth sports activities in Dave's honor.

  • Our family was so sad to hear about David. It has been 25 years give or take a few years since the Hornbecks lived across the street from us but we think of your family often. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • Dear Dave,

Your sense of humor was one of a kind. You had a comeback for everything and made it difficult to one up you in that area. We both have some awesome memories of you that will last a lifetime.

    To the Family-

Words cannot bring Dave back, or make the pain any less. We are sorry you have lost such an important person in your lives. Sons, husbands, fathers and brothers cannot be replaced, but their memories can live on forever in your hearts by laughing about his antics and talking about the joy he brought to your lives. We wish you all the love and comfort we can possibly give to all of you.

    Sincerely,

    Josh and Stacy Carter

  • Dave,

You have been an awesome neighbor for the past 6 1/2 years. I will miss your smile and wave from across the yard. It ALWAYS brightened my day. You always gave Amanda a hard time and she loved it! Just a few weeks back you saw Scott and I trying to load a bunch of dirt into the trailor. You dropped everything to come over and give us a hand. You got your work clothes dirty but just brushed the dirt off and said no big deal. Any time I saw you with Amy or either of your boys it was so very obvious how much you adored them.

Wednesday night absolutely broke my heart. I wish I could turn back the clock and do something more. I would do anything! We’re going to miss you neighbor, but never forget you!

    Amy, Cole, and Jacob,

My heart absolutely aches for you and the rest of the family. I wish there was something I could do or say to express my feelings better but there are no words. Please know that you will ALWAYS be “my neighbors” and I’m here to help in ANY way I can.

  • Dave,

Man you will be missed! You and I have always shared the same passion for the gym and city sports. I will cherish our times together back at CBRC! Our times racking up TD’s together during flag football days and our times on the softball fields and basketball courts. Who am I gonna complain to about how old we feel after every game!

I will miss our chats about life and our LOVE for our Wives and Kids. You were always so FUN to be around and could put a smile on my face at any given moment…. I will miss your MAN hugs my Friend…. Rest in Peace….

  • We were devastated to hear the news about Dave.

We have so many memories of Dave from the softball fields and from playing football with Stephen. From the moment I met him I could not stop laughing… He had a comeback for EVERYTHING!!! And was such a blast to be around. But, the one thing that really stands out was his love for Amy and his children.. he always had a picture to show or a story to tell about them. It will not be the same at the fields without him. He will truly be missed but never FORGOTTEN!!!

    Amy,

I am so sorry that you have to go through this. I am sure the pain is indescribable. Please know that Stephen and I are here for you ANY time of the day or night. Anything you need, we are here. Even if it is just a silent shoulder to cry on.

We love you and are here for you,

  • Amy: I can’t imagine how you feel, Dave always told me he would never get married and that we were all crazy you must be an amazing woman to catch his heart. If there’s anything need please just ask. Cole: stay strong your father loved you very much and talked about you all the time, he wanted only the best for you so make him proud. Graduate and be the best man you can be.

Jake: some day you might read this, your daddy was a great man and influence many people. Dave I’m going to miss you and the guidance you gave me to keep me grounded each and every day.

  • Hornbeck,

Hey, I don’t even know where to start I’m still waiting for you to bust through my office door and give me that morning bear hug even though I didn’t really want it, I never knew how much I would miss it. For the past 15 years you made each day at work a new adventure, from your smelly butt to the abundance of knowledge you had in that head of yours. Some of the stuff you came up with. Most of all I’m going to miss the BFF according to Sanders in my life. From Softball to Basketball to Flag Football I could always count on you. Except Soccer, you said it was for grass fairies. I’m going to miss you each and every day I put that Red shirt on, Coke will never be the same without you.

  • To Dave’s Family,

I was so saddened to hear about Dave’s passing. Dave and I met through work just a few months ago and quickly became friends, in large part, because Dave was so easy to get to know. My company had just introduced a new brand to the market and Dave was quick to give me not only professional support but his friendship as well. I’m terribly sorry for your loss and will be thinking of your family….

  • I was lucky enough to know David as a student, player, teammate, and friend. I meet many in my job but few who lived life at the same pace David did. Those of you who knew him well appreciated the zest for living he brought to all that he did.

David was an outstanding football player at Concrete High School who left it all on the field. As talented as he was I remember more the fun he had competing alongside his good friends and the joy he brought to all the players and coaches.

I also remember how he much he cared for his son. I can remember him doing football drills with Cole between softball games at tournaments. I know his sons meant a lot to him.

I have many clear memories of David that I will always cherish.

  • Dave for the few years that I knew you, you made lots of memories and stories that will live forever in certain times of life. Every time I go into the outfield I will always remember the story of what I thought wasn’t possible……but you threw a ball from so far out in the outfield towards home plate that nobody thought it would make it over the backstop but……..it did and we laughed! Still laughing! LMFAO! Man!…………you will be missed! Many of good times…….I’ve got ALOT of work to do here but save me a spot in the outfield up there! Thoughts and prayers are with the family,
