Vincent Paul Kelly
Vincent Paul Kelly July 19, 1923 – May 30, 2012 Vincent Paul Kelly died peacefully at his home in Alameda , CA in the presence of family members. Paul was born July 19, 1923 in Fort Worth, Texas, the younger son of Bernard and Flora Kelly. Though his parents moved throughout Texas, Paul spent many happy summers in Fort Worth with his grandparents and great aunts and uncles. Paul graduated from high school in Olney, Texas, and then the family moved to Wichita Falls Texas. Just as Paul was going off to Texas A&M he met the girl across the street, Marjorie Page, whom he later married in 1944. Paul graduated from Texas A & M with his degree in mechanical engineering and membership in the Army Corps of Engineers, but was unable to go into active service in World War II because of deafness in his right ear. In 1952 Paul and Marjorie and their two children moved from Texas to Richland, Washington. Paul worked as an engineer with Hanford Energy Works until his retirement from Westinghouse in 1986. During that time he received his Master's in Engineering from the University of Idaho. He had his own consulting business after retirement. Paul and Marjorie lived on Cedar Street in Richland for 57 years. His garage contained a perfectly organized workshop of tools and his office a trove of extensive records and lists. After he retired, Paul and Marge had many wonderful years travelling in their van and then RV. They went to Alaska and had many trips to California and the Oregon coast. Paul particularly enjoyed hiking and backpacking in the Cascade Mountains and spinning and fly fishing. He enjoyed music, particularly opera, symphonic music and jazz. A great reader, especially of history of the West, he also collected maps. He was a member of the Christ the King parish. He gave generously to many charitable organizations including those supporting animal protection, conservation of nature, and trail restoration. He will be remembered by many for walking daily with his beagle along the river. In 2009 Paul moved to Alameda, CA to be close to his daughter. He will be remembered for his humorous expressions and dry sense of humor. Paul's brother, Pat; his parents, Bernard and Flora; and his wife, Marjorie, pre-deceased him. He is survived by his daughter, Kerry Compton; his son, Stephen Kelly; his granddaughter Cassandra Compton, his grandson-in-law, Hugo Leyva, and his niece, Karen Ebert and her family. Paul was buried next to his wife at Sunset cemetery in Richland, Washington. He would appreciate a donation of any size to a charity of your choice.
