  • Uncle Al was my favorite uncle from the time I was a little girl. He was one of the kindest, nicest people I have ever known. My father, Dusty, was his oldest brother and while the last few years with Dusty were challenging for us one of the great joys we had was getting to talk to Uncle Al a couple of times a week when he called to check on his big brother. Al and Dusty were both HUGE Cardinals fans, as is the entire family. Right now I am looking at the Cardinal cutout he made for us. Like all of the Cooks he did love his beer. So tonight I will lift a cold one and say, “Here’s to you Uncle Al. I love you and will miss you.” Love Susie

  • I have lost a very dear friend. Al and I met years ago 1969 when we both accepted jobs at Vitro. We were the new hires and naturally become friends. Over the years we became closer and closer. We bowled and played softball on the same team, we spent many BBQ’s at each other’s homes along with our families. Al became close to both my parents and always brought joy to them and was always there to help when needed. He and Pat both are more than just friends; they were and are part of my whole family. My kids, my brothers and sister and both my wives loved Pat and Al. They were there during my sorrows with a helping hand and a smile. I will miss Albert, why my family called him “Albert” is forgotten with time. What a joy to have known him and call him my friend. Kent Bell

  • Al will be so very missed but never forgotten. I have so many childhood memories of Al stepping in when my own dad bless his heart couldn’t fix something, Al could, he was the go to guy, get Mr. Cook… he can do it! There is a country song out right now and the main line is “Something to do with my Hands,” that’s Al. My husband and I are blessed to have two beautiful pieces of furniture Al’s hands brought back to life. One being our coffee table he refinished just this past April. It will be the center piece of our house for years to come. We will miss you Al Cook……Denise and Vince.

  • Uncle Al was my favorite uncle. I was fairly young when Uncle Al, Aunt Pat, Mike & Steve moved to WA but I loved the times that he would travel back to Illinois. And who can forget the time that my Dad Dusty, Grandma & Grandpa Cook and I all roadtripped to Richland when I was 15! Of course, since we are Cook’s -we came with a station wagon FULL of beer.

When my dad was in the nursing home, Uncle Al would call several times a week & check on his big brother. No matter what type of day Dad was having – a chat with Uncle Al always perked him up.

I also enjoyed the chats with Uncle Al when I was the one visiting Dad that day. Invariably, the conversation would turn to something about the St Louis Cardinals. You are not allowed to be a Cook if you don’t LOVE the Cards…and hate the Cubs. I’m glad that both he and my dad got to experience one more World Series last year.

The Cardinal Nation in Heaven got a little brighter this week, while the one still here on Earth is saddened.

  • Al and I grew up together. Our neighborhood on North St.was located in a part of town where you could hear the trains of the Ilinois central and Wabash RRs as there tracks crossed one another, funny how that memory is stuck in my head. We shared so many boyhood times and both of us ended up living out here in the West where we have shared some best times as well. Pat and Al would always stop by our house here in Milwaukie on their way to visit Pats family in Ashland, we always filled them up with donuts and coffee and a pee stop. What a lucky guy I was to have had such a wonderful friend all of my life. God bless you all who knew and loved this fine man.

  • I was lucky enough to know Al my whole life. Many childhood memories were at their home having BBQ or running around in their back yard while the adults sat in lawn chairs drinking beers. I can’t remember ever coming to Richland and not see Pat and Al. He was part of our family and won’t be forgotten.

  • Well Al, looks like we’re going to have to share our baseball stories a little different way but that’s ok. I’ll figure it out.

You were a really good friend and it’s been more than an honor knowing you. All of those times we hooked up, had a few beers, and just talked about whatever came to mind will always hang in my memorys.

At least we were able to catch up every so often over the years so I feel like we did the best we could to keep in touch. That was always important to me.

My thoughts/prayers go out to Pat and the rest of the family. Also to Kent who was lucky enough to hang with you for all those years.
