SUZY E. CLEM
Suzy Clem, 59, peacefully died Tuesday, August 7, while napping at her home in Yakima. She was born August 21, 1952, in Richland, WA, to Nix and Thelma Clem. She graduated from Hanford High School in 1973.
Her survivors include her brother Robert Gail and children Mike Janet, Kippy Greg Thompson, aunt Tana Clem; sister-in-law Judy Clem and children Kirt Vickie, Eric Jason, Aaron Chris, cousins Glen Carol Rose, Ginger Jack Alexander, Mary Bob Tansy, and great nephews and nieces Kyle, Nathan Devin, Sarah, Ryan, Caitlin, Parker, Christopher, and Easton, other cousins and family. She was proceeded in death by her parents, brother David, and nephew Don.
Suzy spent the last ten years in the loving and competent care of Lisa and Dan Floyd and their children Chance, Siera, and Colton and several assistants at their Yakima adult family home A Part of the Family Too. They truly became members of her family. We want to thank them for taking such good care of Suzy.
Suzy was dearly and unconditionally loved by her mother and father. She absolutely adored her brothers, their families, and her extended family. Suzy was very social and could make a hug last as long as the hugee and time allowed. She was particularly fond of writing notes, especially when she received a note in return. She loved to walk down by the Columbia River. In her 30's she flew unescorted to New Mexico to visit her brother and family. There she enjoyed walks in the mountains. All her life Suzy loved dancing, having a special fun time at her nephew Aaron and Chris's wedding reception. We all remember her love of coffee! She said her dream job was to work at Starbucks. And my goodness, don't forget to make sure all the clocks are set at the exact same time!
She attended and worked at The Arc of Tri-Cities, participating in numerous activities. Suzy was a member of People First, an advocate for the recognition and rights of individuals with special needs, which provided her the opportunity to speak before the Washington state legislature. For many years, she participated in Special Olympics. Suzy was particularly proud of her school accomplishments. Her family is proud of her accomplishments and amazed for what she was able to do, in spite of the challenges.
A graveside service will be held Monday, August 13, at 11 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to The Arc of Tri-Cities.
“Come here” she’d say and crook her finger at you “I want you” than she’d giggle. Thank you to Judy and Dave and the rest of the Clem family for sharing Suzy with us the last 10 years.. Dan is going to miss his “Little Lady”. We are all going to miss that smile.
Suzy was a very special person. I marroed Dan’s little brother 9 yrs ago so she was a very big part of my life the last 9 years. She could always make you laugh. She will be missed and always have a place in our hearts
