Daniel David Deardorff
Daniel David Deardorff passed quietly from this world at his home on September 2, 2012. He was 65 years of age. Dan was born in Vancouver, WA on Jan. 4, 1947. His family moved to Benton City, WA in 1948. The youngest of four boys, he spent his youth in a boy's paradise, hunting and fishing along the Yakima River, and finding work with local farmers.
Dan attended Ki-Be High, where he lettered in football. He went on to college and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from WSU in 1971, following in the footsteps of his three brothers. Most of his professional life was spent with various employers at the Hanford Project, with brief employment in California and Alaska. He was well known and respected as a professional. He was also a member of Union Local 598, occasionally working as a pipefitter.
In 1980 he married the love of his life, Claudia Moyer, and became a family man. Dan was a committed Christian and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kennewick.
Always good natured, Dan was loved by many people and led a colorful life. He was happiest when doing the things he loved; being with his family, motorcycling, camping, and lifting weights. Numerous years, he rode his motorcycle to Sturgis, SD reveling in the camaraderie. For many years he hunted birds with friends, and also spent 10 years in martial arts training, achieving the rank of Shodan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James D. and Daisy M. Deardorff, and nephew Jeff Deardorff. He is survived by his wife Claudia, son Marcus Moyer, daughter Karla Moyer, granddaughter Quincy Snyder and extended family Tanya Fredrickson and Stephen Snyder; brothers Jim Margie of Hillsboro, OR; Bob Barbara of Los Gatos, CA; Max Kim of Omak, WA; three nephews, one niece, and five great nephews and nieces.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Kennewick at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012.
Interment will be private at Evergreen Cemetery in Benton City. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to hospice, at Tri-City Chaplaincy.
It was with great sorrow I heard the news of Dan’s passing and my thoughts and prayers go out to Claudia and family. I knew Dan through martial arts classes and he was a joy to be around, always positive and willing to help. His smile and good demeanor will be missed but not forgotten; he was a great man and made the world a better place.
Claudia, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and accept condolences not just from me but from the Tri-City School of Karate.
Sincerely,
Renshi Vinnie

To a kind, respectful and loving classmate of 1965. I know God is holding you in his loving hands and you are in no pain. We will all meet again. May God comfort Claudia and your family as they come to terms with your passing. You will be greatly missed by all.
Thanks for the honor to be your wedding photographer. Thanks for the motorcycle rides. Thanks for being my Bro, always. Thanks for always showing me the bright side. I regret I didn’t call this summer. Love you both.
Dan was so kind to me during a difficult time in my life, even once inviting me to one of his martial arts sessions. He will be greatly missed.
Our sincerest condolences to Claudia and family. Dan was always so positive about things. His dedication and sense of pride in what he does speaks of his high values in people and himself. We will miss his smile and laugh and the enjoyment he shares with each of us. Rest, our Friend.
