Betty Jane Przybylski

Betty Jane Przybylski, nee Haas, 85, of Richland, WA, passed from this earth and went home to God on October 3, 2012. Her husband, Theodore Ted, who she selflessly cared for during a long illness, preceded her in death in 2010. She was the loving daughter of the late Carl and Marion nee Grover Haas of Bellevue, WA.

Betty was born in Madison, WI, on November 8, 1926, the oldest of 4 girls. She went to grade school at St. James Catholic Church and graduated from West High School in Madison. She married Ted Przybylski on May 19, 1951 at St. James in Madison. She met Ted on a blind date while he was an engineering student at the University of Wisconsin. They honeymooned in Lake Geneva, WI, Chicago, and Niagara Falls as they moved to start their new life together in Oswego, NY. She supported Ted in his career as an engineer through many moves around the country: Oswego, NY, Atlanta GA, Tuscaloosa, AL, Seattle, WA, New Orleans, LA, Bellevue, WA, finally settling in Richland, WA in 1976. She and Ted celebrated 59 years of marriage before his death.

Betty was the beloved mother of daughter Cheryl Albert Ohliger of Sugar Land, TX, daughter Laura Jeffrey Rowe of Lincolnwood, IL, son Michael Patricia Przybylski of Mica, WA, and son Mark Jan Przybylski of Richland, WA. She was the cherished grandmother of nine grandchildren Angela Ohliger Hobbs, Michael Ohliger, Camille Rowe, Alex Rowe, Andrew Przybylski, Mark Przybylski, Joseph Przybylski, Lindsay Przybylski, Natalie Przybylski, and two great-grandchildren Zachary and Jeremy Hobbs. She was the fond aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was also survived by her sisters: Dorothy Bidgood, Mary Lou Blakeslee, and JoAnn Haas, all of Bellevue, WA.

As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, her interests and hobbies supported the care of her family. A fantastic cook, she handed down a tradition of wonderful dishes like her wonderful Apple Slice and Cheesy Mashed Potatoes, and was always eager to try something new. She loved having big family get-togethers and holiday dinners. She was a talented seamstress and made beautiful clothes for herself and her children. She enjoyed travel to new places as well as to visit her children and their families. She made every grandchild feel special and very loved; she enjoyed hearing about their activities and accomplishments and maintained an active interest in their busy lives. She cared for her husband during his last years while he suffered with Parkinson's disease and kept busy and independent after his passing.

She was active in Christ the King Parish and worked for many years in the rummage sales of the church. She was a kind and thoughtful friend and neighbor, and in turn was watched over by many caring friends who would come to her aid unasked and to whom the family is forever grateful. She had great faith and relied on the power of prayer throughout all of her life to give her strength. She was the uniting force of her family, providing guidance and love to all.

  • My mother-in-law, Betty Przybylski, was the most generous, kind, and loving woman. She was a wonderful Bushia to my two girls, Lindsay and Natalie. She was supportive and involved in their lives. She was always there for us. She helped others whenever she could. She never judged anyone. She was a wonderful cook and would always make my girls a little something to eat when they came over. We loved her super cheesy Nachos and that will always be a cherished memory. Betty loved us all so much and we loved her! Mark is her loving son and his heart is hurting right now, missing his beloved Mother. But we take solice, knowing she is in Heaven right now with Ted, and that we will one day see them again. We love you Betty and we miss you so much already. You added a “richness” to our lives that can never be filled. Rest in Peace and God Bless you. Love, Jan, Mark and your girls.

  • Betty and her husband, Ted, have been our friends since Joann and I moved to Richland in 1984. Joann and Betty worked on Knights of Columbus events together and Ted introduced me to the Knights of Columbus, Council 3307, in 1985. We know Betty as a gentle, kind and caring friend. She will be missed by all her friends at Christ the King Catholic Church and at the Knights of Columbus in Richland. Joann has fond memories of Betty at many shared social occasions. We miss Ted but now Betty and Ted can be together again in Heaven. Rest in peace my friend, Betty, you are missed here on earth. Say hello for us to Ted. We miss him also. Another member of the greatest generation has passed away. It is sad to see them go but heaven is rejoicing.
