From Richland, WA, USA | Born in Fontana, CA

Donald Robert Segna

Don Segna, aged 80, passed away October 25, 2012 at home. He was born in Fontana California, and attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo graduating with an Aeronautical Engineering degree. In 1979, he met and married his best friend, Joan.
His career started in San Diego with the Atlas missile program, then moved to Houston, Texas where he joined NASA at the Manned Spacecraft Center and worked on the Apollo program developing launch commit criteria and then as Mission Staff Engineer for Apollo 16. He worked on the Apollo-Soyuz, Shuttle and Sky Lab missions. In 1979 the family moved to Richland where he joined DOE to work on conservation and renewables. He retired in 1994 but could never just "sit still"; he worked on start-up companies and was one of the founders of IsoRay. Don was creative, innovative and hard working, but also knew how to have a good time. His career reflected these attributes, as well as his approach to raising his children. While looking through pictures, we realized we have done a lot. The family built a cabin in Colorado, traveled, backpacked and hiked, remodeled, boated, and raised three wonderful children. Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan, his daughters Keri Segna and Jan Steve Babits and son Todd Debbie, four grandchildren Alex Livingston, Nolan and Shayla Babits and Lily Segna.
A memorial service will be held at Memories at Sunset Event Center, 915 Bypass Highway, Richland on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Friends of Badger. Those donating should include the note "in Memory of Don Segna" with their donation. All donations will be placed into a separate account and will be used to develop the perimeter trail around Badger Mountain. The mailing address is: Friends of Badger Mountain, P.O. Box 24, Richland, WA 99352.

  • Hello, I noticed that there is an incorrect date in this write up. “In 1979, he met and married his best friend, Joan.”

It should say “In 1959, he married his best friend, Joan.”

    Thank you ,
    Keri Segna
