Jerald Thomas Poorman
Jerald Jerry Thomas Poorman, age 76, went home to be with the Lord October 2, 2012 at home in Richland Washington after a lengthy fight against cancer.
Jerry was born March 9th 1936 to George and Meretta O'Brien Poorman in Ontario, Oregon.
Jerry married Ruth Parratt on November 24, 1954 in Kennewick, Washington. The groom pushed his bride down the street in a wheelbarrow while it snowed.
He worked on the Hanford project for 32 years before retiring from his Planner position as an early opt out in 1992. He and Ruth traveled in their RV across the United States almost always ending up on the Washington or Oregon coast. His love of John Wayne, western novels, cribbage and Mariner baseball was well known. A devoted animal lover, he loved his dogs. His recent companion, Princess the Dalmatian and her predecessor Molly, rarely left his side.
Jerry is survived by his wife Ruth and three of his siblings, Maureen, Coleen and Midge. Also his children Sharon Gass Gary, Jerry Jan, Debbie Hickey and Richard. His grandchildren Gary Cindy, Chrystie Sean, Chana, Billy Adie, Dena, Kurtis Tawnya, Iain and Alexander and his great grandchildren William, Anthony, Allison, Sheldon, Trinity, Kiauna, Kenadie, Natori, Teegan and Skyler. His extended family is numerous and well loved.
The family wishes to thank Professional Case Management and their dedicated nursing caretakers that have assisted Jerry throughout the past year. Their attention to details was greatly appreciated.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Saturday October 13th at 2 pm at Southside Church, 517 Jadwin Avenue, Richland WA.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to any charity of your choice.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all during your time of loss. He will surely be missed.
I will miss you my favorite grumpy ol’ man:
My condolences to the Poorman Family – Jerry was someone I remember fondly from my early days in the Tank Farms. He was always honest and forthright and I appreciated this a great deal. Glad to see he got a chance to enjoy travelling around the country in retirement. Take Care.
Dear Ruth and family,
I remember Jerry fondly as a child. You were my backyard neighbors. Jerry always showed kindness and patience. He even let us play in his backyard, which was incredible. I’m sending you all peace and comfort during this time of loss. Be mindful of your grief and remember there is no time limit.
