Richard Augustine Jensen August 09, 1924 - November 20, 2012 Richard Augustine Jensen, 'Augie', to his family and friends, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in Richland, WA, with his loving wife Step-daughter, two grandsons, and nephew, after a battle with cancer. Richard was 88 years old.

'Augie' was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the 3rd of 4 children of Danish immigrants, William Peter Henry Valentinius Jensen and Maren Kirstine Christine Paulsen Jensen. The Jensen & Paulsen families moved to Enumclaw, WA., in the late 1920's, to Buckley in 1940 and Puyallup, after WWII. 'Augie's' parents, siblings and wife, all preceded him in death; sister, Edith Bray of El Cajon, CA, brothers Hans Henry of Tacoma, Christian S. of Puyallup and his wife of 50 years, Anna M. Papac Jensen, from Montesano, WA.

'Augie' and Anne were married in St. John's Catholic Church, Montesano, WA., with many family and friends attending, on October 11, 1947, the same day as his parents, Henry and Christine, were married in Harlan, Iowa, 33 year earlier.

'Augie's' passions in life were his family, hunting, fishing and woodworking. He also served as SSgt. In WWII, stationed in Northern Ireland, England and US Air Bases in Texas and California, one of which was Hamilton Field, San Rafael, CA where he and Anne began their family. The family were long-time residents of Puyallup, WA., where they lived and raised their three children.

After leaving the military, Richard was employed for a time by the Boeing Aircraft Company and as a Civilian A & P, working on engine, propeller & synchronizer systems for the C124 Airplane at McChord Air Force Base, now JBLM Tacoma, Wa., for some 20 years before he and Anne retired to Spokane, WA. 'Augie 'and Anne worked together as they served the community of St Thomas More, Catholic Church and Anne served as a member of Goodwill Industry's of Spokane Board of Director's with 'Augie's' willing support and assistance. 'Augie' worked part-time in his retirement for Dodson's Jewelers of Spokane, for many years.

After Anne's passing in 1997 Spokane, WA., 'Augie' relocated to Mount Vernon, WA where he taught woodworking skills to Developmentally Disabled students at Chrysallis of Stanwood. It was during this time in Stanwood, Richard met his second wife Glenora S. Wentworth Aff. Richard and Glenora were members of Warm Beach Assembly of God, located in Warm Beach, WA.

Many people have been blessed by Richard and Glenora's marriage story. Both had lost their spouses to cancer after long happy marriages, combining nearly 94 yrs. Neither of them were looking to marry, instead looking for a closer walk with the Lord. That search, brought them together and because they put the Lord first in their lives they had a marriage that many describe as "made in heaven".

In 1989, Richard and Glenora relocated to Kennewick and attended Richland Assembly of God through 2005. In April 2006, they relocated to Richland, Wa., where he spent the remainder of his life.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife Glenora S. Wentworth Aff Jensen, his three children, Christina M. Jensen Family of Vashon, WA., Stephen P. Jensen Family of Oregon City, OR., and John P. • Dad you will be missed by many and all are better off for having known you .

Matthew 5 says “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God”. You exemplified these verses dad and as such you were and remain a role model for all on how to live.

You are with God now and have no more suffering, for this we are all thankful. However, we still miss you. We choose to remember not your pain and suffering at the end of your life, but to focus on our wonderful memories of times spent with you; wood working in your shop, fishing trips, hunting excursions, and those phone calls when you had to find the perfect birthday or Christmas gift for mom. We are all better people for having known you.

  • Thanks so very much from the bottom of my heart to Julie Aff and Jacob Aff. I’m sure there are and were others and for all your help I thank you. Thanks for loving them when I was too far to hold them.I know you’ve both/all put your lives on hold to help. I love you two/all. I would like to thank Richard for loving and caring for my grandma. After my grandfathers death my grandma was depressed. This was very uncharacteristic of her. The death of her love had been taking it’s toll. 1 yr later I went to visit my grandma and saw a light in her eyes that previously had been missing. The light was Richard. He had made my grandma happy again. He genuinly loved her and cared for her. He looked out for her best interests and supported her emotionally. Last night we picked out our tree.I hung my grandpa Aff’s ornaments and thought of him. I also had a moment to remember Richard, and how kind he always was to me and my family.

  • Richard was a gentle giant who captured the hearts of all who knew him. I am especially grateful for his loving care and covering of my precious sister, Glenora. Comfort is found in knowing that he is in the presence of Our Heavenly Father, walking and leaping and praising God.

  • After my dad passed, I couldn’t have picked a better mate for my mother. I remember her telling me that she would rather be single the rest of her life, than to pick the wrong man. And so she prayed. Her prayers were answered, and she was blessed by Richard Jensen.

Richard was a true gentleman who loved his family, and his adopted family.

I have fond memories of camping & fishing adventures with my family. I’ll never forget the grouse hunting trips with him, for it was on these trips that he and I really bonded.

I didn’t think I could ever call another man “dad” after my own father died in 1993. But he earned and deserves the title from me.

    I love you dad.

  • Grandpa,

You were such a caring and loving person, and I am so thankful that you were brought into our lives. I will always remember us kids going to stay at your house for spring break, and remember our parents telling us we would appreciate it later. Now I am really glad we did, because we were able to spend some really fun times together. Now you are in a better place, and have no pain at all. I can’t wait to see you up there. Love you Grandpa.
