Gregory Orville Holben

Gregory Orville Holben, 61, passed away at his Richland home on December 18, 2012. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Greg was born to Cora May Leonard and Orville Holben on January 11, 1951 in Lewiston, Idaho. He graduated from Clarkston High School in 1969. Greg attended Eastern Washington State College where he met his wife, Beth Waddington. The family lived in Spokane where Greg worked in construction and began his career as a financial advisor. The family moved to Richland in 1992.

Greg valued family and hard work. He made his loved ones a priority, whether it was to offer advice, an extra set of hands, or a home. He was at his happiest when enjoying a good get-together, usually with a plethora of jokes and multiple coolers full of food and drink to share. For example, Greg organized an annual bus tour for Tri-City Spring Barrel Tasting for all his friends to enjoy. Most of his summer days were spent at his Coeur d'Alene Lake cabin swimming and boating.

Greg was a diehard Cougar Football fan and season ticket holder. He could often be found wearing crimson and grey and shouting, "Go Cougs!" to any fellow fan that passed by, even the occasional Husky.

Greg was a committed member of the Richland Rotary. He served as Club President, as well as Chairman of the Mid-Columbia Duck Race.

Greg is survived by his wife of 38 years, Beth, of Richland; son John Holben of Wenatchee; daughter Teresa Atkinson of Sammamish; daughter Heather West and son-in-law James of Richland; daughter Brooke Torrence and sonin-law Brian of Kennewick; grandchildren Alexis, Cora, Bowe, Ellise, Cannon, Kennedy, and Emma. He is also survived by his sister, Wina Davis, of Las Vegas; sister, Joan Bancroft, of Stanfield, OR; brother, Fred Bancroft, of Spokane Valley; sister, Valerie Smith, of Richland, and numerous uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Richland Rotary Foundation at P.O. Box 37, Richland, WA 99352. At Greg's request, there will be no public memorial service. His many friends, family, and colleagues are asked to remember Greg in their own way.
