From Richland, WA, USA | Born in Nelson, PA

Janet Louise Salina

Janet Louise Salina received her Christmas wish by joining her Lord and beloved husband, Charles, on December 20, 2012. Janet was born in Nelson Pennsylvania on December 30, 1921. Her father William Copp was a teacher and a poet, and her mother Marion was an executive secretary. She was the eldest of six children. Due to the Depression, she and her siblings moved into an orphanage in New York City where Janet helped her brothers and sisters succeed. She kept a positive attitude and made life for her family a healthy one.

In her early twenties, history again played a significant role in Janet's life. World War II brought her together with the love of her life, Charles Salina. For three years, while Charlie was at sea, they corresponded and their love letters are now a part of our family treasures. At war's end they married and Charlie moved his new bride to Richland, Washington where Charles started a new job with General Electric.

During the next thirty years they raised their four children and were strong members of the Richland community and Christ the King Church.

Janet was the anchor of our family. She gave unconditionally to her children; our family was always loved, always cherished, and always safe. She brought those gifts to us consistently, gifts her children share with their families to this day.

Janet is survived by her children Barbara Maheu husband Lou, Martin Salina wife Bobbie, Chuck Salina wife Sonja and Carol Ng husband Russ. Janet was blessed with ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. All of us will miss her passion for what was right, her strength to get the job done, and her total love for us. Thank you mom and dad; we are the lucky ones.

The family also wishes to thank Hospice and the staff at Richland Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care they gave our family during her last weeks on earth.

Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December, 28, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Christ the King Church, Richland. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday the 27th at Einan's Funeral Home.

  • Marty, Chuck, Barb and Carol–you must be very sad to lose your mom, but very much at peace knowing she is with your dear dad again. Of course the DeVine family knew the wonderful Salina family years back, but we were able to meet up again in Richland Rehab before Charlie passed away. Such a great pair, and good parents as you described so well in the beautiful obituary.

  • My sympathy to the Salina family. i had the privilege of working at hHanford with Charlie–a true gentleman, who always spoke so admirABLY OF HIS ‘bride’–EVERY DAY! THEN WHEN MY WIFE WAS A RESIDENT AT RICH. REHAB., I SAW he & Janet every day in the hallway—when one day, Charlie raised his hand in recognition, that only those who worked with him knew what it meant. i stopped as I always did & he had that ONE FLEETING MOMENT of knowing me!! I rushed up the hall to Janet & she was so happy that he had that precious moment. Later when my wife was a patient again & stilljust a year ago while was getting re-habbed there, Janet would say , almost pleadingly, I want to be with Charlie—God Bless her soul–she is once again his BRIDE. GHW Bush was President Bush while we both at work, & Charlie never failed to inquire about my “bride”, whom he ALWAYS called “Barbara”–but, even tho like a true Engineer, he was sincere, even though my wife was ALEENE>

  • Charlie and Janet were lovely people. It was my pleasure caring for both of them at Richland Rehab. Janet told me several times she was ready to go join Charlie, she said she had lived a good life and that she did! I will miss seeing her taking her daily stroll and sharing her loving smile. Thank you for sharing the beautiful picture of them both.

  • Hi Barb…I’m really sorry about your Mom…I happened to see her when I went over to visit Mary Lee Hall…her funeral was just last week. She and Mom were good buds. I had a real good chat with your Mom that day…and had a chance to look at all of her pictures…one of her in her younger years that reminded me very much of you! I do remember visiting with your parents in your house…your Dad was such a friendly guy…and your Mom was always so nice…and busy in the kitchen…It was great to run into her over at the Rehab Center…only wish that I could have seen you too. My parents are getting up there in years too…We played scrabble after dinner last week…My Dad won…AGAIN! My Mom would love it if you dropped by sometime for a visit. My Brother, Don, is visiting from Switzerland. That hill overlooking the river just isn’t the same without the Bergdahls and the Salinas! I will always have fond memories of your parents, Barb, and many of you too! Love to you, Martha

  • I met Janet at Richland Rehab. She always had such a beautiful smile, no matter how she was feeling. She spoke of pain and frailty, that ‘nothing worked right’. She would say, “I’m ready to go, but I guess Charlie doesn’t want me to crash the party”. She was sharp; I loved her wit and sense of moral responsibility. I really loved her dancing! She was unashamed of dancing to good music, and she had more skill than most of us! I’m so sorry for your loss, but I rejoice with Janet and Charlie in Heaven. By the way, he had such a constant, beautiful smile too. We have all been blessed by your parents.

    My dear Janet,

It has been over 3 weeks since you joined up with your Charlie. Happy Heavenly Birthday! Today is my first time to go back to Eagle and you won’t be there.

You told me I was the highlight of your day, but you are a great highlight of my life! I always looked so forward to bringing our Lord Jesus to you and visiting. You loved each of your children in a special way.

The stories you shared of your life were so interesting and your manner of telling them just made me hunger to hear more, see more, and be right there in your life with you! You fascinated me with your amazing interest in politics. I wish we had had more time together so that I could have “met” your grandmother if only in old newspaper clippings. …but time ran out on me with you. But, our all-knowing God’s timing is perfect and the plan was set for your call to come Home. I will always cherish your friendship, the love you showed me, and how kind you always were to me.
