Edward E. Powell
Edward E. Powell passed peacefully into the arms of his loving wife at Kadlec Medical Center on February 13, 2013. Ed was born on April 22, 1923 to Earnest Powell and Rose Nagy in Denver, CO. Ed served in the Army's 11th Airborne as surveyor. He received his Purple Heart during the liberation of the Philippines Luzon along with other distinguished medals. After the Army, Ed moved to Richland, WA in January 1947 and became a pipefitter and member of Local Union 598. He was a member of Union 598 Executive Board early on and served the union for over 65 years. Shortly after arriving in Richland, he met Lois Hecht whom he married in 1947. In 1954 Ed and Lois had a daughter Rosemarie Rosie who was the light of his life. Ed and Lois were lifelong members of the Richland Oddfellows and enjoyed many activities and lifelong friendships. His career as a pipefitter for the Hanford Engineering Works took him to most facilities across the site. He was most proud of his work at the Hanford Tank Farms, Reactors and Plutonium Finishing Plant. Ed retired in 1984. Ed enjoyed his lunches at the Richland Community Center every day. Ed is preceded in death by both his parents and wife Lois in 1991. He is survived by his daughter Rosie Greg Jones, Step-Grandchildren Daniel Jayne Jones of Richland and Chris Amanda Schaffer and family of Fort Collins, Co. He loved and did everything for his family unconditionally.
A special thanks to the caring friends of the Richland Community Center Michelle and Sherry; DaVita Dialysis Center in Richland Jenny, his dear dear friend Verna Coleman; his brothers and sisters at the Richland Oddfellows and Local Union 598. He will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at the Sunset Memorial Gardens off Richland Bypass Monday, February 18, 2013 at 1pm. Viewing is at Sunset Memorial Gardens Sunday February 17, 2013 from 2-5.

We met Ed Powell in March 1997 when his daughter and my son were planning to marry. My wife & I had offered to care for Chris & Danny during their absence and Rosie had listed a couple of handy-man items which may provide an interesting past time for her respective “Dad’s”. Ed & I were happy to use our joint abilities when tackling the small chores.
On one occasion we were invited to come for Christmas and, as usual, a group of friends resulted in a “party”. This time, it snowed in the early evening. When Ed was ready to return to his home, we all said our good-nights and Ed left. About 10 minutes later, Ed came in the house and said he slid into the ditch and needed a tow. Rosie tried to determine WHERE the car slide and Ed had to confess he did NOT need a tow, he simply forgot something! That is an excellent example of his innocent teasing.
Ed will be missed but each of us are better off for having the opportunity to know and enjoy the contact with “Mr. Edward E. Powell”.
