Lucille Ruth Nelson Terry Obituary
Lucille Nelson Terry passed away surrounded by family at Hospice in Kennewick February 13th. She was 86 years old. Lucille was born in Fort Lupton, Colorado on July 17th 1926 to Charles Hilton Nelson and Martha Ruth Nelson. She was the sixth child and first daughter of nine children, having five older brothers and three younger sisters. She grew up on a farm in the Vollmer area and attended Elementary School there, then attending and graduating from Fort Lupton High School. She lived and worked on the family farm which included a large dairy, cattle and row crop.
She learned hard work early in life. Some of her responsibilities included working in the fields, milking, herding cows and helping her father at the weekly market. She has had some interesting work experiences during her life including working in the Sugar Factory, Canning Factory, Grocery Store and at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Denver, where she and a co-worker were awarded "Champion bomb packer".
She married Robert W. Terry in Kimball, Nebraska in 1946. They lived in Fort Lupton until moving to Richland, WA in 1951. She went to work for General Electric Company in 1956, transferring to Battelle in 1965 and retired there as a secretary at the Critical Mass Laboratory. Lucille is a member of the Richland Baptist Church in Richland, WA. Throughout her life, she enjoyed being a home maker and especially loved to cook. She also enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables, something she learned to love as a child. Other hobbies she enjoyed include; bowling, crocheting, boating and traveling. She has been to Central America, Alcapolko, Jamaica, Hawaii and Scandinavia where she was able to visit her father's home and church in Sweden before he immigrated to the US at age 18.
She is survived by daughters Dianna Potter and Patricia Penlick, both of Richland, WA. She is also survived by eight Grandchildren, thirteen Great Grandchildren, one Great, Great Grandchild and one sister, Hazel Hendrickson. Lucille was preceded in death by her Father Charles Hilton Nelson, Mother Martha Ruth Nelson and Husband Robert Wm. Terry.
Also preceded in death are brothers; Olie Robert, Charles Richard, James Joseph, George Harvey, Eugene Leroy and sisters; Mildred Lavetta and Lillian Loiuse.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Monday February 18th at Memories at Sunset Event Center and burial immediately following at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland, WA.
