Carol Jean Mace, 85, passed away on June 21, 2013 in Richland, WA after a short illness.
Carol was born on May 30, 1928 to Frances Christine Cothran and Samuel Ralph Pennock in Berkeley, CA. She was raised in the Sacramento area, where her father owned and operated a chicken ranch. After graduating from San Juan High School in Orangevale, CA in 1946, Carol attended University of California, Berkeley from 1946-48 and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.
In 1949, Carol married Leonard Sullivan. They had two children, Kathleen and Michael. Carol was a longtime member of The Children's Hospital Guild Acorn Branch, where she and her children also modeled in many fashion events. She enjoyed bowling and golfing. She spent many years working for two bowling alleys, running the front desk, organizing leagues, etc.
In 1975, Carol married "the love of her life," George Mace. They lived in Southern CA, managing apartment complexes; Fallon, NV, owning a small ranch; Bellevue, WA, again managing apartments and owning a successful hobby shop in Seattle. They retired to West Richland, WA in 1988.
Carol and George loved antiquing and started an antique and collectible shop, where they made many good friends. They were members of the West Richland Golf Course, where Carol served as President of the Ladies 9-hole League for a time. Carol also spent some time waitressing in the clubhouse, where she made many more good friends.
Her husband, George, passed away in 2004. Carol stayed in West Richland until 2010, when she moved to Richland Gardens Assisted Living.
Carol was preceded in death by her mother Christine, father Ralph, sister Ruth, and husband George. She is survived by daughter Kathy Ralph Ammendolia; son Mike Gail Sullivan; step-daughter Nina Richard Sandoval; granddaughters Melissa Justin Cargill and Kelly Ammendolia Jason Lundy; great-grandsons Logan Cargill and Jackson Lundy.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Richland Gardens who spent time with Carol during her last days.
There will be no formal service. For those who wish to honor Carol's memory, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
On a lighter note Mom, since you are in the right place, you might want to put in a good word for your Seattle Mariners!! You always loved watching the games. They could use the help! I’ll keep on rooting for them on your behalf.
Love you always, K~
Thinking of you, Kathy, and your family at this hard time, what a lovely legacy of family she has left here! Hugs to all and may you have peace and comfort in the days ahead.

Last night as I cried, missing you, I looked up at the sky and there was a rainbow! I smiled, I cried a bit more but I felt you were still with me. It made me happy, as if you were reaching out and were comforting me and telling me it is OK. You are OK.
Thank you Mom for life, for being there for me all these years, and I am thankful that I was able to be there for you as well! I know that you and George are together again as God has deemed.
A quote I found touched me “The death of a mother is the first sorrow wept without her”.
I love you Mom. I loved you in life and always will. You might be gone from this place but will never be forgotten, from my heart or from my memory.
Your daughter, Kathy
