It is January 2022. I am a recruiter and went to look someone up on LinkedIn. Joe popped up front and center – largely because we are connected on LI as we had worked together. I haven’t seen his face in so many years but recall he had passed. Such a warm and friendly face along with a kind and caring personality. Still heavily missed to this day. Sending love to him in the heavens as well as love to his family. He will always be remembered for being a bright spirit in gloomy Seattle.
I remember meeting Joseph through his high school drama friends who are children of my friends. He impressed me greatly because of his warmth, friendliness, million-watt smile, and his unfailing courtesy and good humor to all–even the adult friends of his buddies’ parents. It was clear that he was loved by everyone who knew him. I will always remember him that way.
My prayers are with all he left behind, especially his family. May your countless memories of him bring you comfort and peace in the midst of missing him so much.
God bless and keep you,
Julie Gephart Wiley
Joe was a great friend in band. He was always cheerful and full of adventure and life. I will miss you. You made the Jazz band trips more fun. It was always great to see you in Seattle at Emerald City Comicon. I’m sorry you are gone too soon.
I only recently had the chance to work with Joe at Amazon.com. He was always full of surprises and he even expressed his willingness to help me be successful at Amazon. That meant a lot to me. I would have liked to have had the opportunity to get to know him better, perhaps become friends. I would have liked that very much. On behalf of my entire family, our hearts and prayers go out to Joe’s family and friends.
I was sadden when I saw on Facebook that GM2 had passed away. I remembered him on the Cleveland when he was a third class I believe. He was laid back and very friendly. My condolences to his family. May you rest in peace shipmate.

USS Cleveland 2000-2003
I had the pleasure of meeting GM2 Hernandez as I referred to him with the formalities of the Navy during my year stationed on the USS Cleveland in San Diego in 2004. There was an air to him that he always exuded: always having a positive attitude that could cheer up anyone after a long, hard day’s work. This, I admired about him the most as I look back. I remember “standing watch” with him, striving to mirror his type of professionalism and his level of commitment to his duties and his shipmates around him. I don’t doubt that he made such an impression and influence on many others throughout the years that have come and gone since then. My most sincere condolences go out to his loved ones.
I call you “My Son” for you will forevermore be a part of My Being, You are always a breath of fresh air when you would come “Home” to visit. The daily grind of Life and also your adventures of your days are always forefront in my mind. My Heart is broken but I Believe You will be there when I come “home.” Forever My Love for You. “Mom”
I had the privilege of becoming antiquated with Joe when I worked for one of his vendors last year. He made a big impression on me, and I tried hard to get a job at Amazon just so I could have an opportunity to work with him. His intelligence, sense of humor, and solid work ethic made it a pleasure to work with him. I am shocked and saddened by the news of his passing. I will always remember him fondly.
I only knew Joe for a short time and I have to say he was the best landlord I ever had and I am so sad to hear of the loss of this terrific man!! He was such a joy from the time I met him!! RIP Joe…
I had the good fortune to know Joseph as his counselor at Hanford High School–a wonderful young man, with a tremendous smile and a gift for connecting with others. Many of us remember him in the 1996 production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. That’s how he is in my mind–rest in peace. Teresa Knirck
It was a pleasure speaking with Joe by phone and by text this past May-June when I was taking residence in one of his apartments. His demeanor was such that I hoped to meet him in person. I extend my condolences to his family. Know that I have been and will continue to hold you up in prayer as you grieve your loss. May the God of all comfort fill you with His Peace.
I’ve known Joe for exactly 20 years this summer. Ever since befriending me as a beginning band student so many years ago, Joe never once seemed bothered by a younger kid saying hi or including any of us. Even though we weren’t able to see each other in person much over the last few years, I know that when we were able to interact you always were eager to catch up as if no time had passed at all. I will forever miss that. Thank you for all that you were to so many. It was truly my honor to have known you.
