Orrel Jean Walser

Orrel Jean Walser, age 76, died at Kadlec Hospital on Thursday, 10/24/2013, surrounded by family. Born October 11, 1937 in San Diego, California, she moved to rural Roseburg, Oregon and graduated from Roseburg High School in 1955. Orrel trained to be a cosmetologist and worked as a hairstylist in Dallas, Oregon before moving to Richland, Washington in 1961 to raise her family.

After a long period of volunteering in the emergency room, Orrel took a position at Kadlec Hospital, in the HR department, where she worked for 23 years before retiring in 1998. One of her proudest accomplishments is the recruitment of numerous wonderful nurses, many of whom are still providing care. Upon retirement, Orrel and husband Ron traveled the world, visiting dozens of countries on cruises and land tours together; she particularly loved Sidney, Australia.

Orrel was very active in the community, lending her time and energy towards nonprofit organizations, including Kiwanis, the Children's Guild, Grace Clinic and the Tri-Cities Wine Society. She also enjoyed golf at the Meadow Springs Country Club, social and duplicate bridge groups, and participating in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed contributing to the Miss Tri-Cities organization as a chaperone for many years and later as an advisor. Orrel and her family were members of Central United Protestant Church in Richland.

Orrel is survived by her beloved husband Ron, their three children, Rhonda Henry Jarvis, Jill and Randy, as well as grandchildren Carolyn Jarvis, Mark Kholdinasab and Alyson Jarvis. She also leaves behind her sister Lucy, brother-in-law Joe Mesplay and nieces Jacque, Michelle and Sheri.

There will be visitation at Einan's Funeral Home today from 4-6pm. A funeral service will be held tomorrow Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 3:00pm with one hour visitation prior to ceremony at Memories at Sunset Event Center, 915 By-Pass Highway in Richland.

Memorial contributions are welcome and may be made in Orrel's name to Tri-City Industrial Kiwanis, the Children's Hospital Guild or Grace Clinic.

  • Ron,I am so sorry for your loss. After so many years together I can’t imagine how hard this temporary separation is. I hope that the emptiness that accompanies such times will quickly be replaced with fond memories and increased family unity.

  • So sorry to hear this. I knew Orrel from my time working at Kadlec, but I wanted to share that about 15years ago she participated in a writing/penpal program with Jefferson Elementary School students. She wrote to my granddaughter, Skye, and became the child’s friend. She wrote wonderful interesting letters and made a difference in a little girl’s life. Thank you, Orrel.

  • We were honored to know Orrel through Miss Tri-Cities and the Children’s Guild, and we shared a special bond of growing up in southern Oregon and attending Oregon State. My favorite memory, however, will be a chance meeting on a day when she was preparing to attend an OSU reunion with Ron. We were in a local salon, and there she was scrutinizing all the colors of orange nail polish, finding just the right shade to celebrate the orange and black!

Orrel never missed a reason to celebrate each day . . . she was a delight in every way, and a role model to all who knew her . . . her gentle spirit and kind heart will never be forgotten . . . our deepest sympathies to Ron and all her family . . .

  • Of all the classmates that I knew in high school, Orrel was one of the most memorable. Nothing flashy, nothing done for show, just a down-to-earth, pleasant person. We will all miss her.

  • I am so sad that our cousin has died. She and I shared working in large hospital systems. Her up-beat approach to life was wonderful. My heart goes out to Ron, Rhonda, Jill, Randy, Lucy and their families and friends. She will be missed by me and my siblings, Jan and Bart. We are so glad to have been able to come to Ron and Orrel’s 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Love, Tom and Jean Forseth
