Daniel Leonard Noss

Our kind, strong, loving, intelligent and faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother and son, Daniel Leonard Noss, AKA "Dan, Lito, and Dano", went to his forever home in heaven with Jesus on November 28, at the age of 61.

Dan was born on April 14, 1952 in Wenatchee, WA to Leonard and Bettie Noss. He was the younger brother to David and was a good boy who made his parents proud and was an avid outdoor explorer in Wenatchee and its surrounding areas. He especially loved spending time at his family cabin on Lake Wenatchee and skiing at Mission Ridge. He attended elementary and middle schools in Wenatchee, Washington and Hurst, Texas and graduated from Wenatchee High school in 1970. Dan attended Wenatchee Valley College for a year, and then graduated from Washington State University in 1974 with a degree in Business Administration. After college, he was hired by Rainer National Bank in Yakima as an operations supervisor and it was there he met his future wife Susan Cerna. Dan moved to the Tri-Cities in 1976 to work at Old National Bank. In 1978, Dan was hired by Exxon Nuclear and stayed employed there for the next 35 years as it changed names to Advanced Nuclear Fuels, to Siemens, to Framatome, and lastly to Areva. He worked in finance and safeguards during those 35 years.

Dan and Sue were married on May 28, 1977. As Dan would always say, they had 36 years of "wedded bliss" together. They had three children; Sarah, Kirsten, and Matthew. Dan was a wonderful family man and always made spending time with his family a priority. His homemade pancakes were a Saturday morning tradition and he always had to tickle his kids to make sure the pancakes would "stick to your ribs." His hugs were so safe and warm and could make any baby that he held fall asleep immediately. His greatest joy late in his life was becoming a grandpa that they called "Lito" to Gracey, Jaxton, and Easton. He would light up anytime the grandkids were around and cherished every moment he spent with them. His family will forever miss him!

Dan was an avid Washington State University fan. He made sure to pass on this love of WSU to his wife and kids by taking them to WSU football home games for over 10 years. He did such a great job brainwashing his kids about WSU that all of his children attended Washington State University.

Dan was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for over 25 years. He served as the head elder, Steven Minister, church council secretary, communion assistant, and usher over that time. He also was on the Bethlehem Lutheran School Endowment Fund Board. His support of a Christian education showed through sending all 3 of his kids to Bethlehem Lutheran School.

Dan was a kind and giving person who loved his Lord Jesus with his whole heart, mind, and strength. He was the epitome of a Christian man, husband, and father. Even in the middle of his cancer diagnosis, he wanted to use that opportunity to glorify Jesus and bring others to believe in Him. Throughout his journey, he and his family were able to share the story of the hope he had in Christ Jesus.

Dan's 2 year cancer battle was supported by many wonderful health professionals whom all had his best interest at heart: Dr. Jose Ness and staff, Dr. Robin Jones SCCA, Dr. Bill Reed, Dr. Luzcel Tuazon, and Trios Health Med-Surg, ICU, and short stay nurses and CNAs who lovingly cared for Dan during his last 3 weeks. The family is forever thankful for their care and compassion.

Dan is survived by Susan, his faithful and loving wife of 36 years, children Sarah Luke Flohr of Pasco, Kirsten Scott Bond of Seattle, and Matthew Noss of Prineville, Oregon. His three grandchildren, his pride and joy, also survive him: Gracey, Jaxton, and Easton. He is also survived by his father, Leonard Noss, brother David Noss and his wife Sandi, all of Wenatchee.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Bettie Noss, his father-in-law Raymond Cerna, and his mother-in-law Socorro Cerna.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 7, at 10:00am at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland. A celebration of Dan's life will be held later in the day at 2:00pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Kennewick.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Scholarship Endowment Fund BLSEF and sent to Bethlehem Lutheran School at 2505 W 27th Ave. Kennewick, WA 99337.

  • I have worked with Dan for many years and have always had such good talks and great laughs with him. When times were crazy he would come walking out to the Warehouse to “Get some air”. We talked about kids and grandkids, by the time he would leave we would be laughing. His love for his wife and family was to be admired. I shall miss Dan and our talks. My prayers are with you at this time.

  • Dan and I started work at Exxon Nuclear in nuclear materials on the same day. We worked together and carpooled for many years, talking over the many happenings at work each day. I count Dan as a best friend. He was more level-headed than me, and often reminded me, “remember Walling, we just might have to reinvent the wheel”. He used this so often that I must have needed it! I have many good memories of him, and will look him up when I reach heaven. God bless you, Sue, he died much too soon.

  • I will think of Dan whenever I come to church and see his empty chair in the back corner section. Thank you to Dan and family for keeping the faith in our Redeemer so strong and inspiring me. I know he touched many lives. Sue, I cannot imagine your sorrow right now, but I am thankful for your wonderful children who will be your support and those lovely grandchildren who will keep the joy in your life. I always thought that Dan was the “calm” in your family and I bet he was that at work and also at church. His smile forever lingers.

  • It was a true pleasure to work with Dan these past 34 years at Exxon/ANF/Siemens/Areva.

I especially enjoyed the last ~ 5 years participating in our daily walks at lunch with the three amigos Dan, Bruce & Glenand Dan is sorely missed now.

Dan was a good man and was very knowledgeable on just about any subject.

This was especially true on family and financial matters and he providing me with many valuable insights on how to do the right thing.

Dan always took a great interest in how your life was going and was very helpful in me becoming a better husband and father.

I can tell Dan left a very positive mark with everyone he was involved with and his family is very proud of him.

Dan was also a very positive contributor for our community and his family will now carry on this tradition for many years.

    Rest in peace Dan.

  • I was a fraternity brother of Dan’s at WSU from 1971-1974. We both moved here in 1977 and I remember running into him at the Kennewick Grid Kids football fields when Matt played and also a couple of times at Fred Meyer. The comments made here of his dry wit and gentle laugh and being so soft spoken were just as true of him in college as they are today. I never saw him angry, never heard him raise his voice, and never heard him utter an unkind word. He could make you smile and brighten your day in just a passing conversation. He was one of life’s pleasantries you meet along the way. He was our sunshine on a cloudy day.

Even his laugh was a gentle one. Will keep the family in my prayers and I know in my heart Dan is with our Lord and Savior.

Dan and Bill Woodfield who also passed on way too soon were great guys to share our college lives. In more recent years, I am very happy to have reconnected with Dan and assist him in attending to personal financial needs. He was a teriffic guy who will be sadly missed.

  • Very sorry to hear the news of Dan’s passing. I started work at AREVA two years before Dan. He had a great sense of humor and was wonderful to know and work with. He kidded me a lot about rooting for the ‘blue cougars’ BYU. He also had a way of framing world events where we seemed to have lost our way relative to common sense and our noble birthright as children of God. My best condolences go out to the Noss family.
