Rose Marie Roy Konzek

Rose Marie Roy Konzek, 76, of Richland, died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at home surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Rose Marie was born June 1, 1937 in Sunnyside Washington, She was the eighth of ten children born to Henri and Marion Roy and had lived in the Tri-Cities since 1959. Rose Marie received her education in Sunnyside. She worked at the Richland Public Library for the General Electric Company following graduation from high school. On December 28, 1955 she married George Konzek. They attended high school together and the family moved to Richland in 1959 following her husband's service in the Air Force. She held a number of jobs outside the home as time allowed, while raising 5 sons, all of whom graduated from Richland High School. She was an active and ardent supporter of her children's academic and athletic activities during their high school and college years.

Her faith in God words of wisdom and inspiration, and courage in battling cancer for many years as well as numerous other life threating aliments touched the hearts of everyone she knew, especially her family 14 grandchildren.

In 1954 Rose became the Miss Sunnyside High School selected by Will Roger, Jr. Among that joy in her life she was very devoted to her family, gardening, cooking and outdoor activities. Patio sales were her hobby and until others got on their feet in life, she gladly and selectively contributed to their wellbeing. She will truly be missed. Rose was a long time member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

She is survived by her best friend and loving husband of almost 58 years, George; their five children, George Jr., and his wife Peggy and grandchildren Jeffrey, Danny and Jalynn; David and his wife Denise and grandchildren Windy, Davis, Ann and Luke; Steven and his wife Diana and grandchildren Timothy, Mark and Kristen; Richard and grandchildren Jene and Blake; and Glenn and his wife Rene and grandchildren Aaron and Brett as well as 17 great-grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents Henri and Marion; sisters, Theresa, Janet, and Cecilia; brothers, Paul Joseph, Paul Clement and Roger and her infant son, Paul Joseph.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 6:00-8:00pm at Einan's Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00am at Christ the King Catholic Church with a graveside to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Sunnyside, Washington.

The Konzek Family would like to thank the Tri-Cities Hospice at the Chaplaincy staff for all their kindness and care for Rose during this time.

In lieu of flowers please send donations in Rose's name to the Hospice at the Chaplaincy, 1480 Fowler Street Richland WA 99352

  • George and family, I’m so sorry that you lost a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. It is always hard to let go, but know that she is in a better place with no more pain. I will cherish the memories that I have from being in school with her, and being able to touch base with both of you at the hospital. She was always kind and considerate when I visited with her and the times that I took her for exams. You have a wonderful family and I’m sure that it is from the kind upbringing that you and Rose Marie gave them. Thanks again for sharing her with me after all of these years.
